Hi there,

I've owned a Blade 14 for about a year now and the battery on my laptop is awfully short. It wasn't a problem until now cuz for the last year I always use my laptop inside my house and always on plug with electricity, but starting this year I actually need to bring my laptop outside. The battery life is not what I expected - my laptop can only lasts 2- 3 hours outside charging (I only use my laptop without plugging in for light web browsing, no video playback) - from my understanding Razer advertise this laptop for up to 10 hours battery life I think, and many YouTubers said that the expected battery life after they tested this laptop is around 5-9 hours of web surfing. So I was worried if there is something wrong with my battery or is there anyway I can improve the battery life for at least 5 hours, 7 hours is preferable so  I can comfortably bring my laptop outside without bringing the charger (cuz its very bulky) and having to worry when my battery will die.

I really appreciate your help because this issue is really frustrate me to no end.

Were you able to perform the recommendation from this article? Ensure your Windows OS, Intel, and NVIDIA  drivers are updated. Let me know how it went.

I've done all the recommended actions from the article and all my drivers are definitely up to date but the battery life still 2 hours 4 minutes on 99 percent on battery safer mode. Is there anything else that I'm missing, what should I do?

Thanks for confirming. Allow me to initiate an investigation by submitting a case on your behalf. Please send me the following:

  1. A photo of the BIOS main tab.
  1. Windows Battery Report •  Hit Windows Button + X and select Command Prompt (Admin). This is the quickest way to open the Command Prompt as an administrator. • Type in and enter: powercfg /batteryreport

Note: This command will create a battery report under C:\WINDOWS\system32\battery-report.html or, in Windows versions older than Windows 10, under C:\Users\[Username]

      c. Windows Energy Report • type "powercfg/energy" in the command prompt, (It’ll take 60 seconds to generate an energy report of your battery then produce an HTML report in the root path of C: drive.)

Save the compressed files via Google Drive or any online drive account, then paste the link into your PM. Let's continue our conversation privately. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hello there ! I have been going through the same problem ! The difference is that my laptop is not even 8 months old and it was working fine a few weeks ago… getting up to 9h of battery life, but now its overheating and lasting 2 hours tops with 100% battery. This is annoying… and disapointing.

I have done pretty much everything. Drivers up to date. Unistalled Geforce Experience and AMD adrenalin as they are battery drainers and installed the drivers manually. Looked for every single AMD forum as I keep getting a driver timeout error while browsing on youtube.

The article linked in this session is just useless for this kind of issue. It is not a minor tweak, there is something completely weird about it ! I dont even use razer synapse and other apps anymore. The computer drains out on IDLE in 2 hours tops, no keyboard lightning no high bright on screen… and the list goes on of tweaks done for improving battery life and still… nothing.

My laptop is a Razer Blade 14 (2022)

If it’s overheating - the 1st thing I’d do is to disassembly bottom lid and clean the fans. I’d also change thermal paste.

I’d also check what programs are running automatically on startup, and disable or remove them if they’re not necessary.

There is not a single program running automatically on startup, i have disabled those couple months ago already… Also dont use synapse or any other battery drain APPS that could be affecting that… so that is what feels the weirdest to me.

To change thermal paste with only 7 months of use ? Is that the kind of service Razer does , providing a shitty thermal paste that would be the cause of it ? I had worse laptops in my life that would last the thermal paste longer than this… so IDK.

I think there might be some software issue related to the AMD processor and onboard GPU as I run that to browse internet and only use the NVIDIA when I do play something

Hello there! I have a Razer Blade 14 (2021) with AMD Ryzen 5900HX + RTX 3080. Had similar issues for a while with the battery life, would barely last 2 hours.

  1. Both chipset and GPU drivers updated
  2. Uninstalled Geforce Experience as it’s a legacy app replaced with Nvidia App
  3. No apps running at startup (including Razer Synapse, AMD adrenaline, etc)

Found the culprit that was draining the battery in an idle state - Nvidia Container process running in the background. Even though I switched the Global settings under Nvidia Control Panel (Manage 3D settings) to ‘Integrated graphics’, the Nvidia Container service kept running in the background which drawing at 31W discharge rate, 10W idle dGPU drain.

Resolution:

  1. Updated the BIOS to the latest version
  2. Clean re-install of Nvidia Game drivers via the Nvidia app (ensure to select the custom installation instead of Express and tick the clean installation checkbox)
  3. Go to Windows Search bar → type ‘Services’ → Look for Nvidia Display container and double click it → select the option, ‘Manual’, under Start up Type → Apply
  4. Download HWInfo and click on Sensors tab and look for the draw rate under dgpu, it should should 0W.

Cause:

  1. Blade 14 2021 doesn’t have an advanced Optimus like the newer models
  2. If the dgpu is not performing any tasks (like gaming, running 3d applications, etc), the laptop should switch to igpu however the issue was with something holding a D3D session open on the Nvidia GPU, preventing it from dropping to D3Cold.

You can check a couple of options:

  1. Run Windows Powershell as an administrator
    1. powercfg /energy /output C:\energy_report.html
    2. Open that HTML file — it will specifically flag any device being prevented from entering a low power state. Look for entries mentioning "PCI Express" or "NVIDIA" under the warnings section.

Also run this to check if D3Cold is even enabled for the Nvidia device:

    3. Get-PnpDevice | Where-Object {$_.FriendlyName -like "*NVIDIA*"} | Select-Object FriendlyName, Status

Hope the aove helps!
