2018 Blade 15 Advanced GPU issues
Yesterday when I went to change some nVidia control panel settings on my 2018 Blade 15 Advanced I couldn't find it. I went to Device Manager and found that my 1070 maxQ had an exclamation mark with status "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43).
I tried uninstalling it and scanning for hardware, then installing newest drivers from nVidia (441.20 released 11/19/2019)), which seemed to complete but then made the system unbootable.
After several rounds of Windows RE trying to fix the issue I booted into safe mode and uninstalled the GPU again, and was able to boot normally off of the UHD 630 ( which is what I had been doing when the 1070 was disabled before).
I then tried reinstalling 441.20 and it crashed during install. After reboot the 1070 was gone from Device Manager and would not appear in a hardware scan. I gave up for the day.
Today I opened GeForce Experience and saw that there was a newer 441.20 just released today (11/22/2019) so I tried that. Despite there being no 1070 in DM, the installer ran, but crashed during install. System booted OK after restart, no 1070 in DM.
Then I saw that there were 431.65 drivers posted here that were supposed to address Blade-specific issues and gave those a shot. There was a warning during install but it completed without crashing. Now it appears I am back where I was at the start: 1070 MaxQ shows up in DM but it is stopped due to Error 43.
Anybody else having this problem, or can anyone offer any advice? I can't abide having a Blade with only UHD GPU.
Thanks.
