2022 Blade 15 CPU spiking to 100C

ImperialRedalleyaero737
I bought this Blade 15 a little over two weeks ago at Microcenter, and it has been running hot, hitting core (and package, of course) thermal throttling in HWinfo64, even while set to Balanced power in Synapse and only doing email and office work. I've looked for "wayward" background services etc using Process explorer. Nothing unusual. The fans are not obstructed in anyway and I get the same spikes while using a cooling pad.

It's not that the system builds up heat over time. The CPU spikes to 100C just doing normal desktop work or simply loading windows, not gaming, on the balanced plan and ans on full bast. It's getting worse, producing BSOD 21a several times and DPC issues. .

The problem does not look to be one of shedding heat from the cooling solution (per Intel lingo for the heatsink) but is more consistent with either poor block mounting or poor TIM application.

I see 2 ways here:

  • RMA your laptop
  • Try cleaning and change themal paste / thermalpads (you won't loose your warranty if properly done).

Yeah, that's what I've heard, confirmation? And a step-by-step with pad thickness'. i put a case into support, lets see what they recommend...

Thermopads should be 1-1.5mm thick, but you can measure it when you'll disassembly heatsink - check Gelid GP-Extreme really good quality ones. Thermal paste you can check Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut - it's harder to spread over CPU/GPU, but also great performance.

This is highly likely a hardware problem. Can you PM me your case number so I can coordinate with the RMA Team to keep your case forward? I will lock this thread to curb our conversation to PM.
