Yet another BIOS update issue. I just started to get a firmware update notification in Razer Synapse to update to the latest firmware (October 2026 for firmware 1.06). I followed the link to https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20635 , double checked that this matches my laptop’s version, which it does.

I followed the instructions and disabled windows hello and made double sure I was logging in via a password and not a pin. Didn’t have to disable BitLocker because I’m on Windows 11 Home. I also don’t have any peripherals connected, just power.

After the initial failed update I began to try the back-end solutions folks were talking about online --

  • I turned off Memory Integrity, Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist, and even tried turning off Local Security Authority protection under the Core Isolation settings
  • Turned off Fast Start Up in the power settings
  • Went into the BIOS shell and Restored Optimized Defaults and turned off Secure Boot
  • Right clicked on the .exe file and ran as administrator

I’m not sure what else to try, I’m fairly good at tech troubleshooting but messing with deep settings like this is pretty out of my element.

One behavior thing that I did notice (not sure if this points to anything of use) is that when the updater runs it says “the mouse and keyboard have been disable” but I’m still able to move the mouse around via the trackpad. When I tried to install the MCU and EC updates (before I realized the BIOS update hadn’t taken) the updater did actually appear to disable the keyboard and mouse. Again, not sure if that’s useful information. Might point to something in the updater failing earlier in the process? Who knows.

Anyways, if anyone has suggestion on other things to try, shout ‘em out. If you got step-by-step instructions, even better. Thanks in advance!

And sure enough I figured it out as soon as I post asking for help. Ain’t that just the way sometimes 😂

Posting a follow-up though for anyone else struggling with this. I was able to get the BIOS update to work after restarting and spamming F1 to get into the BIOS shell. There’s an option for “Fast Boot” under one of the tabs (I think the tab was labeled “start up”) make sure that’s disable. Press F4 to save the settings and boot back into Windows.

From there I ran the BIOS update as administrator. This time instead of restarting back into windows, the updater restarted into the BIOS shell and was able to complete the update.

One thing to note -- I had all the other options mentioned above still disabled. Disabling fast boot in BIOS was an added change, not the first thing I tried. So if you’re still having issues after just disabling fast boot, try going back and disabling the other options in addition to this option. It also appears that fast boot re-engages after resetting the computer once, so if the update doesn’t take you may need to do the BIOS shell process again.

Hope this helps! Godspeed my friends!
