Audio problem with Barracuda Pro

I have encountered a weird audio problem with my Barracuda Pro headset

Even though I have disabled THX spatial audio in Synapse, my audio quality decreases significantly when I launch any game (tested with BF2042 and 7 Days To Die), and also when I open the Windows 11 audio settings window. I suspect this might have something to do with THX Spatial audio as it has the option to automatically switch on when playing specific games.

For background info:

I have updated Synapse and all the firmware for the headset, and I also use it with the USB dongle

However, I have found a temporary solution to prevent the audio quality from decreasing (or perhaps prevent THX from turning on):

  1. Navigate to Windows 11 audio settings window
  2. Open the Barracuda Pro device settings
  3. Set the “Audio enhancements” option from “Device default settings” to “Off”

This has temporary fixed the issue when I am playing games, but the problem still occurs when opening the W11 audio settings window. As I have said, I Suspect this might have something to do with THX Spatial audio and the Synapse software. I hope this helps others until the issue is fixed.

The spatial audio is custom Dec settings they might not sound great for everyone or could conflict with other settings. Happy to hear turning off helps.

Yes, the workaround works most times, but with some games like Project Zomboid, I have to constantly switch between audio devices to prevent THX spatial from turning on and ruining the audio quality.

It’s also weird how Synapse keeps reminding me to make THX spatial audio my default audio device, considering that it is just an optional feature:

This is still a huge problem and should definitely be fixed, especially as the Barracuda Pro headset is a relatively pricey for a gaming headset.

Dac settings hopefully they fix it so a work around is not needed.  Windows was supposed to work on audio problems to help developer teams.

I have the same issue.  When I turn off the Windows settings, it is “less bad” but still has issues and the highs and lows are now spotty.  Blame Windows all day long but these might get returned soon.
