Barracuda X (2022) Dongle Firmware Update Fails – Update Not Persisting (RZ04-0443)

Hello,

I have a Razer Barracuda X (2022) headset (Model: RZ04-0443) and I’m experiencing a persistent issue with the dongle firmware update. The updater completes the process without errors, but the new firmware version is not saved on the dongle. When I reopen the updater, it asks for the same update again.

Issue Summary

  • Headset firmware successfully updated

  • Dongle firmware appears to update but does not persist

  • After restarting the updater, it prompts for the same firmware update

  • Tried multiple USB ports, including USB-C and USB-A (USB 2.0)

  • Tried different systems

  • Reinstalled the updater

  • Headset pairing works normally

Technical Behavior

The updater is able to:

  • Detect the dongle

  • Begin the update

  • Send firmware blocks

However, the dongle’s internal storage fails to write or persist the new firmware version.
From the logs, it appears that the SPI flash memory inside the dongle is rejecting write operations (likely write-protect or block-protect state).

Files Attached

I have attached the log file generated during the firmware update attempt for your reference.

Request

Could you please provide:

  1. A method to fully reset the dongle firmware

  2. A standalone updater package (non-installer) if available

  3. Any possible recovery steps for the dongle’s internal flash memory

  4. Replacement options if the dongle’s flash cannot be rewritten

The headset works fine — the issue is only with the dongle firmware not saving the update.

Thank you.
