Device & Environment:

  • Mouse: Razer Basilisk V4 Pro
  • System: Laptop with Intel Core i7-13620H CPU
  • Previous Comparison Device: Logitech MX Master 3S

Issue Description:
When spinning the scroll wheel rapidly on the Basilisk V4 Pro, the computer immediately starts emitting continuous beeping sounds (Windows system alert beeps), and the mouse cursor becomes extremely laggy and stuttery.

Through testing with a custom AutoHotkey (AHK) event counter script, I identified the root cause: during fast scrolling, the mouse floods the operating system with an overwhelming amount of wheel events. The system input lag and buffer overflow (beeping) consistently trigger whenever the event frequency surpasses 300 events per second.

Troubleshooting Attempted:

  1. Lowering the Polling Rate: Changing the mouse polling rate in Razer Synapse only caps the cursor movement (WM_MOUSEMOVE) updates, but has absolutely no effect on limiting the hardware output frequency of scroll wheel events.
  2. Disabling Smart Reel / Smart Scrolling: Turning off the automatic free-spin/tactile switching features did not resolve or mitigate the issue.
  3. Hardware Comparison: I previously used a Logitech MX Master 3S on the exact same laptop. Under identical fast scrolling conditions, the Master 3S caps its maximum scroll event frequency at around 125 events per second, and it never caused any lag or system beeps.

Conclusion & Request:
While I am running this on a laptop with an i7-13620H CPU, a modern processor should not be brought to its knees by mouse inputs. The issue stems from the mouse firmware failing to throttle or debounce high-frequency scroll wheel signals, causing severe hardware interrupt saturation in the Windows input queue.

I sincerely hope the Razer engineering team can release a firmware update that implements a frequency cap or internal throttling for scroll wheel events to prevent overwhelming the host system.

Update : The probability of the beeping sound occurring decreased after I closed Razer Synapse.
