Black Widow v.3 Questions

I saw a review of the Black Widow keyboard that said it needed to use 2 USB ports, is this true? USB ports are at a premium on my machine right now! Also if I use my Windows partition to program the RGB will the onboard memory store the settings and remember them when I boot my Mac partition? (I just want one color.) I assume Synapse 2 won't see it? Thanks!
