Blade 15 2018 thunderbolt 3 USB support? | Razer Insider

Hi Folks

I have acquired a used Razer Blade Advanced 15" 2018. I have been trying to plug in an external USB 3.1/2 SSD enclosure into the Thunderbolt port but I get only USB 2 speeds. I have the same problem when plugging an (RSTech) USB-C to USB 3.1 multiport adaptor into the same port - all devices attached only run at USB 2 speed.

I am currently plugging everything that needs to run faster into the USB ports instead (and just using the thunderbolt port for my mouse and keyboard!)

Does the Thunderbolt 3 port not support fast USB 3+ connections?

...or is there something I am doing wrong here?

I have updated all drivers to the latest and am running the latest version of Windows 11.

I must say also that I have also experienced USB3.1 devices connected to Thunderbolt port dropping out randomly, which does not bode well - not to mention intermittent loss of video and mic connection, necessitating use of USB webcam and external mic. Build seems very poor for a premium computer (but all that is well documented on the web!).

Thanks for any help
Ah - I now have some clarification of what is going on after trying lots of things and looking carefully with USBTree...

It appears that the RSTech hub plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 port shows up as both a USB2.1 hub (port 11 on USB Root Hub 1) and a USB3.2 hub (port 3 on UBS 3.1 Root hub 2) - depending what I plug in (a USB2 or 3 device), it shows up on one or the other. And USB3 devices ARE being detected and supported on this (and directly plugged into the THunderbolt 3 port - I tried another USB3.1 enclosure).

The problem is with my USB3.1 ICYBOX SSD enclosure - which, when plugged into the Thunderbolt port directly or via USB3.1 hub is detected as USB2.1 instead of 3.1....

Fortunately this enclosure works just fine when plugged into any of the other USB ports (via a USB-c to USB3 adaptor cable) so go figure...!
