Blade 2020 OLED not supporting Netflix UltraHD (4k)? | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
I have a brand new Blade 15 OLED 2020 model (RTX 2080 Super) - Netflix can only play HD (not UltraHD 4k). This system replaced a 2019 OLED model which could stream Netflix at UltraHD (4k), and I've set both systems up the same way.

The laptops are set up the same (HEVC codec installed, same internet connection speed, Netflix account, etc.).

According to a CyberLink app which tests for UltraHD compatibility, the Razer is failing the 'Protected audio/video path (GPU).

Is anyone else having troubles with 4k Netflix content on this system?
Fixed. Needed to completely uninstall and reinstall the Intel display driver. Reinstalling (without removing) kept on installing a driver dated 1-22-2020. Doing the full uninstall replaced it with a driver dated 5-19-2020. This fixed the issue.
i have the same issue with my Blade 15 base 2020 Oled... I already have installed the display driver from intel with no success, you are suggesting to uninstall before ? Did you restart thc pvc between uninstall and fresh driver install ? thx for your feedback !
Thank you so much @aakers I installed the latest driver as you mentioned and now netflix works perfectly in 4K / HDR, thank you very much !!!
Glad I'm not the only one. I had it revert to the older driver after a Windows update recently, so I had to manually update the Intel driver again.

For anyone else with this problem, here are the more detailed steps:

1. Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters > Intel UHD Graphics, right-click and choose Properties

2. Choose "Uninstall Device" and tick the box "Delete driver software for this device"

3. In Device Manager, click the "Scan for Hardware Changes" icon (looks like a magnifying glass over a montior) or just reboot

4. It should automatically install driver version 27.20.100.8280 (2020-05-19) or perhaps a newer one in the future

5. 4k content should now work (provided you've followed all the basic Netflix troubleshooting like HEVC driver, correct plan, Windows 10 native app, etc.)

For the record, NVIDIA support walked me through the solution, even though it was an Intel driver issue. I had emailed Razer also on June 4th but haven't heard back from them.

Now, if someone could tell us how to set the default driver to this new version, so it stops reverting to the shipping Intel driver version that doesn't work, I'd be really thrilled.
Thanks for this! Worked for me on my Razer Blade Pro 17 4K Early 2020. Question, when you installed the latest Intel drivers from the Intel website, did it put a listing in Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel? Mine didn't not sure if that is normal or not. Also, you can follow this post to disable Windows updates for the Intel Display Device.

Now I just wish I could get 4K HDR on the Blade Pro 17 4K when I have Optimus disabled...But I have these bastard 442.53 drivers installed, and no new versions will work.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your workaround here. I've forwarded this to our team. Feel free to send me or any mods a PM should you need additional assistance. I'll be locking this thread now.
