Boot to BIOS. NMVE disk not detected - Razer Blade 2019 | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Hi,

My laptop recently started randomly booting directly to the BIOS and not to Windows.

I noticed in the BIOS that my SSD NVME disk was not detected.

Sometimes restarting helped, but it got worse and worse and it now always boot into BIOS.

It's only 3 months old, so I'm very surprised with this bad experience.

Support claims that I won't get repairs for free.

I tried to replace the SSD disk with a new Samsung NVME SSD disk, and it worked for about 1 day and then started to boot directly to the BIOS again now, not detecting the SSD disk.

At this point, it sounds like a motherboard failure and like I've wasted 1900 USD on a laptop thats only 3 months old.

Any advice on what I can do to get it working?
Let's not jump into conclusions. First, does your RB15 work properly with the SSD that it came in with and have you tested the Samsung NVME on another machine to check if it is working properly? By the way, what's the model number of the drive upgrade you picked up?
Existing SSD: No. It worked fine for the first 3 months, but then slowly stopped working, and more and more often I randomly got a blue screen of death while working or even in the middle of meetings.

Over a period of 2 weeks, it got worse and worse, until I finally could not turn on the laptop at all, and it just always booted into BIOS.

Once I realize that the Razer support didn't want to cover this within the warranty, I decided to try to replace the SSD disk myself with a Samsung NVME 970 EVO Plus 500 GB (here is the exact disk I bought: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/samsung-970-evo-plus-500gb-m2-2280-ssd-10339165)

Interestingly, it worked! I was able to boot the computer again, re-install Windows 10 using a USB Windows 10 boot disk, and then setup and install all my applications etc. again. Took a few hours, but I got it done and working.

Next day: Same problem happened. Now the laptop stopped working again, and just booted into BIOS directly, just like it did with the first SSD disk which came with the Razer Blade Stealth.

At this point, I've concluded that it must be something else than the SSD disk, and rather a motherboard/SATA driver issue or similar.

I'm just very surprised that Razer is not willing to repair my device within warranty. I thought these kinds of problems would be covered for a 1900 USD laptop.

It's my first Razer laptop though, so it might also be worse warranty services than what I'm used to with Apple and Microsoft.

Do you mind sending me the case number when support denied your warranty claim via PM? I'd like to see why and go from there.
It's no longer within the reseller return period, which is only 1 month.
