Brand new Ornata V3 keyboard has Left Shift spamming issue

Context (all keyboard mentioned below have the AZERTY French layout):

After 3 years of use, my OLD Ornata V2 keyboard starts spamming the Left Shift button (not the key itself, the digital input only). I try troubleshooting it with no result:

  • I test the keys in an app: I can see the Left Shift key spamming
  • I try pressing Left Shift and other keys, they work fine (physically). When I press numpad keys it looks like the spamming slows down
  • So I’m guessing either faulty wiring after heavy use, or a software issue. Software issue seemed unlikely due to 3 years of use with no issues, and I didn’t have any new specific software messing with the keyboard before the Left Shift issue
  • I plug/unplug it, restart my computer, change USB ports, disassemble the old keyboard, clean it, put it back together, but still experience the Left Shift issue

So yesterday, I throw away the OLD V2 Ornata keyboard, and buy a NEW Ornata V3.

Guess what happens: Left Shift stuck spamming after a DAY of use. On a brand new keyboard.
So I EXCHANGE IT at the store for ANOTHER Ornata V3 (this is the second one now).

Now, a DAY after use, I experience THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN (on the second Ornata V3). Left Shift starts spamming again. So I’m guessing software issue since it seems unlikely that such a drastic hardware issue would have been shipped.

Troubleshooting time:

  • I clean reinstall Razer Synapse (haven’t done that until now), and low and behold: the Left Shift spamming issue seems to stop when I boot the app
  • Fantastic. I go take a break, leave my computer as is, and 15m later when I get back on the computer, LEFT SHIFT IS SPAMMING AGAIN. While the Razer Synapse software is STILL running (clean reinstalled and updated mind you)
  • So where I am at today is: I can make the Left Shift issue go away if I fiddle with the Razer Synapse app (turning it on and off), or by unplugging/plugging the keyboard
  • But this issue seems to come back randomly, and does not seem to be related to physical input (I haven’t been able to make the issue go away by doing anything physically to the keyboard)

Razer Support, any clues ? What should I do ? Am I doomed to not being able to use an Ornata Keyboard anymore ? Is this a software issue ? What should I do next ?

Hi autoWheatplane647,

Since the same Left Shift spamming issue happened on your old Razer Ornata V2 and then again on two separate Razer Ornata V3 keyboards, this looks less likely to be a physical key issue and more likely related to the system environment, software, or USB. To help us isolate the problem, could you please confirm:

  • if the issue also happens when the keyboard is tested on another PC.
  • if the Left Shift still spams when Razer Synapse is fully closed/disabled.
  • if the keyboard is connected directly to the PC and not through a USB hub, dock, extender, or KVM.
  • if you have already tested different USB ports, especially the rear USB ports on a desktop.
  • if any Windows input settings such as Sticky Keys or Filter Keys, or any remapping/macro software, may be active.

In the meantime, please try the following if you haven’t already:

  1. Disconnect all other non-essential peripherals and leave only the keyboard and mouse connected.
  2. Make sure the keyboard firmware, Razer Synapse, and your operating system are all fully updated.
  3. Clean the keyboard using a microfiber cloth and compressed air.
  4. Connect the keyboard directly to the computer.
  5. If you are using a desktop, test from the rear USB ports.
  6. check whether the keyboard may be in Demo Mode and exit it if needed.
  7. Disable Razer Synapse and test the keyboard again.
  8. If the issue stops with Synapse disabled, perform a clean reinstall of Synapse.

Please PM me your keyboard serial number, Windows version, and the results after testing on another PC and with Synapse disabled. If possible, please also include a short video or keyboard tester screenshot showing the Left Shift input spamming. Thank you!
