can I use razer mamba wired w/o battery

my old razer mamba has a swollen battery I pulled the battery out and was able to use the mouse in wired mode with no battery for a day or so, but that no longer seems to work. Should the mouse function in a wired mode even with no battery in place? I have tried it with the power switch in the "on" and "off" positions. I would rather not order a replacement battery if the mouse itself is now dead.
