Complete system freeze only while plugged in

Hello,

I have been dealing with a problem that I can not seem to pin down so I figure I would ask the hive mind before I start spending money.

I have a blade 15 advanced (2019) with a 2070 max q in it. I can not tell you when this problem started over the past few months but The system will completely freeze when playing games. Now the trick is that it only freezes when plugged into the wall. I have tested a bunch and think It may possibly be a battery or the power brick.

I noticed that the laptop was starting to randomly freeze on me while just doing normal browsing and low load situations. This was after I installed different ram and upgraded the system to windows 11.

After some frustrating times for sure because this problem did not seem to go away It was mostly happening when trying to game. Even low resource games like diablo 3 has this issue as well. I can get in, play for a minute or two and the system freezes with audio glitching out and I have to force reset it.

So For giggles i decided to try and play games on battery power only which to my surprise is completely stable. No crashing or freezing of any kind. I then plugged it back into the power seeing the difference in performance and after a couple of minutes the system froze again and that is a consistent thing.

I then used battery power only for a good 30 minutes to let the battery drain down to see if I could get a different response and sure enough I did. While still in game after a good 30 min or more..I plugged it back into the power brick and the system was stable. No crashing and I let that go on for a good 20 minutes to let things get nice and toasty. I have only been able to do this a couple of times.

But of course the freezing problem comes back. and is pretty consistent with how long it takes to freeze from game entry. So This problem seems to be power related I believe.

Just for testing sake to widdle down possibilities I did a memtest with the system plugged into the power brick. And sure enough after about 6 minutes or so it froze. I then ran memtest on battery power only for 40ish minutes and it was completely stable. I then plugged it into the wall while memtest was running at that 40 minute mark and the system was completely stable for the remainder of the test.

So After messing around a bit because I have not redone this system since new. I did a factory reset back to windows 10 to see if there was perhaps some weird software thing going on. No change. Still the same issue while gaming but system is stable while browsing around and watching videos.

I have not had the chance to see if the battery is swelling or not so that will be my next step. I did a battery report and see that full charge says 64 watt hours when its design is 80.

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction because this is seeming more and more like a power delivery issue rather than something else.

Thank you
