"Critical Process died" Cortex issue

I updated my windows, and all the sudden whenever the cortex game booster turns on or off, my PC encounters an issue and reboots itself. Nothing happens, but its just annoying that I cant use game booster anymore. I tried repairing cortex, reinstalling, everything. Even reset all my Cortex boosts, nothing. It opens all my browsers, glitches out, then reboots. The update that caused this was Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - v5.135 (KB890830). When I updated I did “Update, restart, shutdown” So maybe that caused it? Not sure.

IM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I got it twice and each time after using game booster. Game booster really does help me, but its unfortunate that i’m rendered unable to use it.

Oh my god guys, I’ve been dealing with this critical process died crashing for over a week now and have tried literally everything the internet has to offer and nothing.  Suddenly I had a hunch it might be the booster and I found this thread and low and behold that solved it.  Thank.  God.  I just can’t use Cortex Boost, but I have too much RAM to be concerned about that.

I’m surprised Razer Cortex caused my laptop to get a BSOD recently. Every time I tried opening Task Manager while the optimizer and game booster were on, it caused a BSOD, and it happened twice 💀. I thought my constantly high CPU temperature was the cause, but it turns out it happened even when my CPU was cool, as long as I opened Task Manager while the game booster and optimizer were on.

Have you guys found any fix for this? Cortex really helps me boost performance because it clears my ram so much lol

You are not alone! I glad I’m not the only one.

For the last week or so, whenever I’ve been playing games (it’s happened on a few games, so not game specific) occasionally the computer will come up with a brief error screen, and then automatically will restart the computer. It usually happens after my game, but sometimes happens during the game.

The error screen is black and says ‘Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart’, and also CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (OxEF)

I guess its related to using Cortex, which I do when I’m playing games. Does anyone know if there is a fix, or do you just have to turn off game booster so the problem resolves?

I’m having the exact same issue, I’ve tried undo’ing any OC I’ve done, my PC is also brand new and this was the last thing I thought was causing it as I’ve been using Cortex on my old PC for years with no issues. Has there been any other fix found besides outright uninstalling?

UPDATE: After turning off my Game Booster ‘auto-boost’ option, I now longer have any issues with my computer restarting, which is great! Didn’t need to uninstall, I assume uninstalling would have the same effect though.

Cypher my gaming laptop is pretty new as well (2023 model, I have used it from new for a bit less than a year now), so this issue is more to do with the Razer Game Booster rather than computer age. I’ve been using Game Booster for months without issue as well, so this issue could be related to some update issue.

I’m not aware of the issue being fixed yet, but hopefully it is in the future.

Glad to hear,  my PC is also brand new,  5080 and Ryzen 9, I also have used Cortex for years and it was literally the last thing I would have suspected... however I reverted the system boost and uninstalled, played PoE2 for 8hrs this morning with 0 issues... 🫠

I’ve informed support about this, they said they will be 1-2 business days to investigate.
