Hi all. Friend lost the recovery partition on a Razer 16 laptop and the OS went to hell. They tried to just do an install from the Razer image downloaded directly. It just pops up with a window saying “5” twice and then shuts down after saying “Recovery Successful”
I’m in IT and she isn’t so she asked for help. I tried, got the same thing. Called in a case they had me download a “different” image (fun fact: it was the exact same zip file so a waste of my time) I tried again and got the same thing.
Tried two different USB drives and separate ports on it.
So after going about things the “right” way I figured I’d try a clean windows 11 install. When I do that I get “a driver is missing” I’m guessing it doesn’t see the hard drive because intel drivers. I downloaded and extracted the intel drivers from the latest release, but it didn’t seem to like any of those (of course it’s not telling me what driver it’s looking for.) I’m assuming it’s the HDD driver, but I see the drive in the BIOS (not in RAID mode, just FYI) and if I try and install saaaaay linux it’s fine (she wouldn’t want Linux). So I know the drive works.
I’m at a total loss and it’s ridiculous that both 11/10 can’t find these drivers out of the box, but they’re not even listed on the Razer website.
When I called Razer for a follow up they wanted me to talk to MS about it, which I think is laughable.
Any insight would be appreciated. IT’s been hours of trying to work with this machine and I’m pretty irritated.
Thanks!
