HOW DO I HARD END A MACRO THAT HAS ALREADY RUNNING?

 After starting a macro (mapped mouse movements), there is no way to end the macro until it finishes by itself. I tried to end it by pressing the ESC key, even with the same key that starts the macro, in the settings I turned on/off by pressing the key that starts the macro, and it still doesn't respond. Once the mouse movement starts, I have no way to end it. This can cause unwanted clicks and movements in the system. Please advise how to reliably end a running macro, thank you.
