I'm having issues with a used card

I bought two cards in the store and when I scratched off the pins some of the numbers were unreadable. I asked my friend who I am given the cards to for help in identifying the missing numbers, but we were unsuccessful. I contacted Razer support for help and they tell me the pins have already been used. I don’t understand how that’s possible because my friend said you can’t redeem the pin when it’s incomplete. I haven’t used the pin and neither has my friend. Am I just out the money I used to load the cards or if there something that can be done about this?
