I really need some help, PLEASE, my unlocked CPU has suddenly become locked after one restart | Razer Insider

There's a couple other things I'd like to talk about but the most important one right now is as per Subject header, so will add the other questions at the end of that.

I have had my Advanced 15/3070/240hz G sync/11800H since December. 7 months now.

When I got it, I noticed my CPU was locked but my friend with the same model had a completely unlocked CPU meaning he could undervolt and had control of his multipliers.

Razer 15 laptops are extremely thermally challenged, so the store contacted support for me and within a day they provide a beta bios to me that made my laptop exactly like my friends. The 11800H is not an unlocked processor per se, it's just that for some reason, many laptop brands provided it as unlocked to the customer.

What I do is have the system in boost mode/high gpu mode but I have all cores locked at 3.5ghz. I allow single cores to boost to 4 rather than 4.6.

Because the fan profile is so slow on the laptop, this allowed me to do everything I actually needed to do. Any game in existence can play at 3.5ghz on an 11th gen processor. Any task could be done without the laptop ever thermal throttling or ever leaving the 70's in temperature.

I called this a perfect compromise between performance, heat and noise.

I also had a -0.50 undervolt applied which gave me a little headroom to maintain the 3.5 ghz even under extreme load, because the laptop has a very low sustained power limit and could drop to 3.3ghz even when not thermally throttling. The whole fan profile and performance choices made by Razer are SO bizarre and make no sense, and even THE top reviewers on the tube all agree and they keep saying it but razer for some reason won't listen. But I digress.

The main problem at hand is that I restarted the computer cause it had been a couple weeks and I like to do so, and when I logged into windows my processor was suddenly locked, out of nowhere.

I have tried setting defaults in bios in case that would fix it as well as complete shutdowns and many reboots to no avail.

I can not install any bios over the current one cause the razer utility tells me I am up to date, so what I am hoping is that razer can provide me a way to force install the same bios over the current one again, hoping that will trigger and fix it like it did the first time.

This a huge deal to me

and this is where the TLDR part comes in, as if this wasn't long enough already.

I am being honest, I WON'T be buying a razer laptop again, because the company is adamant in sticking to the same major design flaws and just not fixing them.

Case in point:

I can choose a custom base fan speed of 4100 RPM, but only in balanced mode. When under load, the power limit is very low in that mode and the cpu drops to mid 2ghz, just above base clock. In this mode the temps have never gotten above 62 degrees.

Yet, when I put the laptop in its highest performance mode, the fans slow to a crawl, and allow the processor to go all the way to ONE HUNDRED degrees before the fans slowly start tp creep back up, but it's already thermally throttling by then, and then the CPU power limit strikes in this mode as well, although not nearly as harshly, as said it drops to 3.3 or 3.4 ghz and maintains that under 100% load at about 80 degrees.

If Razer allowed use to choose fan speed in high performance mode rather than the lowest performance mode only, it would NEVER hit 100 degrees when it is under load at 4ghz, the fan would already be spooled up, and I am guessing about 92 degrees max which is perfectly safe.

So Razer has the fan profiles 100% backwards and completely nonsensical. I have since found out this is a sticking point for years now, and since I can't get even close to the real performance this chip offers, I won't be buying Razer again, as the new higher core count processors can only be worse!

For example, my secondary laptop, the 16" Legion 7i, has the same unlocked CPU and I am able to maintain a continual Cinebench loop at 4.5 ghz on all cores, yes, an OVERclock, and never ever thermal or power limit throttle, and that laptop is barely bigger than the Razer.

Razer CB R20 BEST score, 4612

Lenovo - 5615

Same CPU.

15.6" laptop vs 16".

The second major problem is that Razer laptops have the most miserable DPC latencymon results which make them useless for professional audio project/mixing work.

In fact, I only BOUGHT the Lenovo as a studio laptop because the Razer was so bad at it.

It worked out OK, as I dedicated the Lenovo to work only, and the Razer is the fun, travel, internet, and games machine.

And honestly guys, despite my reservations and complaints about the backwards power limit vs fan speed choices, it has been exemplary as a gaming machine at 1440P with G-Sync and a general purpose machine.

But that was when I had my multipliers and voltage fine tuned to the best this machine could do.

I am just flabbergasted still, I have no idea what to do, literally one minute the machine was working via XTU profiles and the next minute, every parameter is locked.

I really need help on this.. the seller offered me to return the laptop on the second day, and I was going to, until Razer fixed the issue for me with the bios. I decided to just keep it even though I was disappointed with performance and temps, and I made the most of the unlocked processor.

Anything you need to ask, I am all ears and will do whatever is needed to get my laptop back to the state it was in just a few hours ago! Please help! Now if I am in performance mode, which I need to be as balanced mode is just too low a power limit on the cpu I am regularly hitting 100 degrees and I am not comfortable with that, not even remotely.

I have explained it to the best of my capability, if there is anything that needs further clarification, please let me know.

TIA very much
I know it's impossible to get a reply here about anything, which is why I stopped posting till now as I never got a single reply and worked everything out myself in the last 7 months.

But I have tried everything I can think of here and can't work this one out.

What I did notice, after the reboot where the processor's multiplier and undervolting suddenly became locked, a synapse update was happening automatically in the background.

Did you guys push a microcode update somehow that locked the processor?

if so please just let me know, so at least I know there's no fault in my motherboard or bios!

If it's not fixable I am selling but please just tell me.. I mean without an unlocked processor this laptop is useless to me as I can't normalise the performance or thermals to the perfect compromise I had. The only thing I can still do is deactivate turbo but the clock speed is far too low in that mode to even watch a 4K video without losing frames.

Edit, I can still control maximum wattage but it's not the same thing, cause unless it's under very high load it will hit 4.6ghz and the temps, which never went above 80 for me with my system, are now routinely higher just browsing the web.
@Bavanity I will need to forward your case to the Engineering Team so they can look at the locked CPU. I also responded to your PM asking for information to help me start a case. Let's just continue there so I can assist you accordingly.
