No one got back to you as I am having the same issue? Can't get the A button working so assumed it needed a firmware update...
2.70 is the latest firmware, there's just no pop-up or anything.
And there's some known problems with controllers on Android 11:

If you have Android 11, you can try this, it worked for me.
It's a bit involved but the instructions are straight forward:
1. Download the Tasker app from the Play Store
2. Grant Tasker secure settings permissions using adb:
https://tasker.joaoapps.com/userguide/en/help/ah_secure_setting_grant.html
3. Add this Tasker project and enable the USB profile:

4. Reboot and it should be fixed
Note: I tried going into my settings and manually disabling all the accessibility settings but that didn't fix it for me, it might work on other phones though.

Very kind of you to reply. I sent it back so I will hopefully get a replacement that works!
