Kraken TE audio distorted unless I use 'Headset Earphone TE - Chat'

Just bought a Kraken TE headset for my daughter's birthday, and the sound just won't work properly.



Sounds fine in Synapse and in Youtube, but as soon as I load a game up the sound is all distorted and crackly.



The only way I've managed to get clear audio is to use the 'Headset Earphone (Razer Kraken TE - Chat)' audio device.



I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling synapse, including deleting folders from the registry, and changing USB ports.



Any ideas? Pretty upset that this doesn't work as it should (as is my daughter!).
