I lost the code for it and dont have proof of purchase as it was given as a gift bought unopened from someone else. I have the serial number and other stuff, would I be allowed to buy a new code or am I stuck without 7.1 surround sound?

You don’t need proof of purchase to register it. It’s just a warranty thing. Just put date when you’ve received it.
