Major display issues with Razer Blade 17 | Razer Insider

Hi all,

I’ve had a bunch of issues in the past with this laptop (my 2nd Razer after I had a great experience with the first), battery swelling, keyboard LEDs, overheating etc.

The cherry on the cake now is the display has become totally non-functional. When I boot up the laptop, it might work for a few minutes, before the display freezes, a bunch of stuttered lines appear and then a huge dark blotch that appears over the screen while everything slowly fades to black (see attached pictures).

I can use an external monitor with no issue, but the laptop is now getting very hot very quickly after booting up. If the display has been off for a while, I can also switch back to it in windows settings and it’ll work for another minute before the same thing (lines and dark blotch) appear. The blotch pattern is always the same. Even before the screen freezes, I’ve also noticed there’s about two rows of pixels at the top that reflect the screen below, including the cursor as I move it around.

I’ve tried booting into BIOS and have the same issue, so it’s not a software thing. My next step is planning to open the laptop up and seeing if a cable or thermal paste has degraded from overheating…

Anyone know what the hardware issue might be? I would have assumed the LCD panel is broken, but the fact it can start working again after a little rest suggests it might not be that simple.

Many thanks!
