Mouse lags when Razer headset is recording audio | Razer Insider

Not sure whether “lag” is the right word. Essentially I need to move the mouse a lot to get the cursor to move a little.

This problem happens as soon as any program starts “recording” audio. Being in a Discord voice channel, the Discord “Voice and Video” settings, even the Windows microphone settings page. Any time a program starts using audio from the microphone, the mouse slows down.

This is specific to the Blackshark microphone. I have other microphones attached and they don’t cause this issue. It’s also not a problem with the mouse since when the recording stops, the problem goes away. For example, leaving a Discord voice channel fixes the issue.

This is also a recent issue. I’ve been using this same microphone and mouse together for a long time and the problem started some time this week. The Razer firmware updater says I have the latest firmware. My mouse drivers are also up-to-date as is Windows Update.

I was poking around and may have accidentally found another workaround: in the Windows 11 “System > Sound” settings, if you click on the microphone, you get an additional page where you can change the input format from 48000hz to 16000hz. This seems to fix the problem. There’s a chance this isn’t related to Razer. However, other microphones on the system support bitrates nearly that high with an additional channel. Also, the CPU usage on the system monitor seems basically unaffected at the higher bitrates. I’m still suspicious of Razer but I’ll leave this answer in case anyone else encounters this issue.
