Ok so I love this device as a phone, though it is clunky and large vs everything else I've had in the past, I did know what I was getting into in that regard before I bought it. My problems with it however, are becoming too frustrating to handle on a daily basis and I am hoping someone out there might have some advice as to how to fix them.
1. No android pie STILL. Why does my 3-4 year old samsung galaxy S7 phone I "upgraded" from have the update and I am still waiting for my brand new $1100 CAD device to have it. When you pay this much for a device I believe a company needs to stand behind its products and at least give a projected estimate to its customers as to when the update will become available. I realize this is a specialized device with additional requirements to be met for this launch, but when I am having a ton of issues related to the current software I'd rather see developers release the update so we can test things and help them report back the issues we have with a new OS. Not patch an old version only to have to fix the issues again in the next version.
2. Bluetooth/Android auto is completely broken. This is my biggest issue with the device BY FAR. I have chatted with tech support and they were aware of my issues, but again couldn't offer a time frame for the fix or even offer a temporary workaround. I use android auto every single day. When google play music doesn't work and plays the music through the phones speakers when it should be coming out of the vehicles audio system, this is a very big problem. Not only can I not play the music I have stored on my phone, but now my $15 a month subscription for my family plan is useless to the person paying for it for its soul purpose, music in my vehicles.
Again my old phone works perfectly, but the RP2 is a mess. The bluetooth sometimes doesn't connect either so when I ask android auto to call someone, the call audio comes through the phone speaker instead of the truck/car stereo. I have to then pull over, unplug my phone, wait for the bluetooth to reconnect, then plug it back in to start Android auto again.
I have discovered that Tidal music streaming works with AA so I am paying for another $20 a month subscription as a work-around for a problem that has been a known issue for months on a brand new device.
Though this work-around does get my by, I still have the phone call issues regularly and once I'm done driving my vehicle and I unplug and leave the vehicle, I get "Android auto has stopped" errors on my phone over and over again until I go in and force quit the app from the "apps and notifications" settings page.
3. Pokemon go. I bought this phone as it was highly regarded for gaming and reviewed as "the ultimate phone for pokemon go" but I can't use any of the phones advantages in Pokemon go. I have to turn the screen down from 120hz all the way to 60hz or less to actually catch anything. (its impossible to throw a curve ball above 60hz) This is the only game I really spend any serious time on, as it is my wife's favorite game and something we enjoy together. Having to turn off the 120hz display I specifically bought this phone for, to play the main game I have the phone for, seems completely ridiculous.
4. Volume of speakers with "dolby" active is far far too loud on the lowest setting. If I want to watch a YouTube video while my wife is sleeping beside me its impossible with this phone. Turning off dolby helps but going from 0 to volume *1* shouldn't be a big enough step to scare my cat from the bedroom and wake up my wife. I do love the speakers this phone has when I want them to be loud, but I have never used them above 1/3 volume yet and I would much rather have a lower volume ability when I want it.
5. The camera. The factory camera app from razer is absolutely horrible. Auto-focus basically doesn't exist, you have to tap the screen where you want it to focus, and with no obvious image stabilization usually the item falls out of focus while you are trying to move your finger/thumb back to the shutter button. If you are using the flash the display goes almost completely black for a second after the shutter is pushed, and you have to go into the review screen or the photos app to see if you actually got a picture you wanted or not. The video recorder is so slow to respond I find myself hitting the "stop" button at the end of a video 4 or 5 times before it finally reacts. Snapchat actually does a better job of running the camera on this phone than the built in camera app.
Please help me find some solutions to these issues so I can go back to being excited about my new phone instead of struggling with it every time I turn it on!
