My Razer Basilisk v3 started making sounds when trying to free spin

Since yesterday, I was hearing this strange sound somewhere around my mouse and I couldn’t figure out what it was until recently.

It seems like for some reason when free spin is enabled on my mouse it does weird sounds when I try to free spin the scroll wheel, and there is another issue where the wheel itself doesn’t enter free spin for some reason… It does “free spin” on the page I’m on but physically it just doesn’t free spin anymore.

I haven’t touched anything in the settings, I’m not sure if my mouse is broken or not…

I had it for like 2 or 3 years now I think and everything was fine

Hey TomerGamerTV,

Did anything happen to your mouse before this started? Any drops, spills, or anything like that? Also, is the scroll wheel feeling stiff or hard to turn or stuck in a certain way? Based on what you’re describing, it sounds like there could be a mechanical issue going on with the scroll wheel. Let’s try to perform a few steps to isolate the issue.
1. Dust and debris can build up over time and cause exactly this kind of problem. Use a can of compressed air and blow it around the sides of the scroll wheel, then try spinning it again.
2. Restart your mouse by unplugging it, waiting about 30 seconds, and plugging it back in.
3. Connect your wired mouse directly to a PC USB port instead of a USB hub.
4. Uninstall the mouse driver. It will automatically reinstall after the uninstallation process.

If the issue still persists after trying all of the above, please test your mouse on a different computer without Razer Synapse installed. If the problem shows up there too, that would indicate the device itself is faulty. Since you've had the mouse for about 2 to 3 years, it's likely outside of Razer's standard 2-year warranty period. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to process a replacement request. Feel free to PM me if your need further assistance. All the best!
