New to PC and Razer, audio issues?

Hello, I recently purchased the Razer Kraken headset. I can hear fine but i can't talk in-games. On my sound settings, if i choose the audio as 7.1 surround sound i get no audio, i have to use the speaker. The mic does not show up as input either. Only way the headsets work is if i use normal speaker but audio sounds strange. Sorry, if this is a newbie question. All my drivers are updated.etc. Any help would be appreciated, The machine i'm using is a laptop, the Acer Nitro 5.
