NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH SYNAPSE | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

I am fully vested in Razer, bought the Blackshark Pro 2023 headset, Deathadder Pro 20K, Blackwidow V4 and while the hardware is awesome, sadly the Synapse software has led to ripping my hair out.    All my woes are with Synapse and KB Macros and continual USB resets corrupting profiles.

Before anyone is short to respond with quick fixes please hear out my troubleshooting and bear the following facts in mind:

1) I have tried THREE Blackwidow KBs we own (2) V3, (1) brand new V4 I just bought this weekend.
2) Tested on multiple PCs 5950x AND 14900K
3) Tested on Windows 10 AND Windows 11
4) Reburned my main PC
6) Multiple re-installs of Synapse (EVEN FRESH LOADS OF WINDOWS)
7) Multiple re-installs of Synapse Beta (FRESH PC BUILD)
8) NO USB HUBS so leave that out Razer.

  1. Forgot to mention updated firmware where it was out of date.

Problems with taking above in mind:

-CONTINUAL "RANDOM USB" resets during macro editing or doing things within Synapse
-Profile getting corrupted and causing an endless loop of USB reset until I was quick enough to set it back to default profile.
-ON STOCK SYNAPSE: Assigning a macro to a key would cause a green spinning hourglass next to the onboard profiles icon "indefinitely" forever.
-Trying a KB reset would never reset the kb to stock it just pauses the spinning hourglass and does NOTHING.
-In further frustration I had a friend try editing some macros that also owns a V4 version and his also had the USB reset issue mid stream on macro editing.
-I spent 30 hours on this issue this past weekend and very very sour with Razer right now, how can such basic things as creating macros or using the software associated with the hardware cause so many weird problems across multiple systems spanning different keyboards.

Fast forward to friend suggesting the Beta Synapse.

OK lets try the beta on a BRAND NEW build on Windows 11.

YAY now the spinning logo did not appear when assigning Macros to a key.   However it's very buggy in the sense of each time I'd go to assign a macro it reset to not finding any existing and I'd have to go back in to macros and click on one then go back again and then the drop down would be populated with macros.... BUT the spinning hourglass issue was gone.

So now I thought I was golden.

Well guess what here come the random USB resets again while editing a macro.

OK USB reset finishes and did not appear to impact anything....

I managed to get most of my stuff completed.

Found I had some errors in my macros and now the current problems is Synapse bugged out so bad that when you "select all" and click the "trash can" to delete all the steps in the macro NOTHING HAPPENS.

Synapse is now all corrupt again.

^^^^^^^^^ I have done this now on TWO PCs across (3) Keyboards.

This is a Synapse issue not something on my PCs.

I have at least $1200 in Razer products between my wife and my system.   This is just unacceptable that I should have to spend this much time to do BASIC BASIC things.....

My friend said dont bother opening any tickets as Razer will just ask for logs and ask you to reinstall synapse and then blame your PC.

It seems clear to me that after 30 hours of troubleshooting this across multiple PCs and keyboards, and OSes, and differing versions of Synapse (normal/beta) that the problem is RAZER SOFTWARE.

My Blackshark V2, Blackwidow V4, and Deathadder are all brand new and going back to the store.   So disappointed because I LOVE this HARDWARE!   Shame the back end is so problematic.

Same issue here, Razer software issues is something of all days :(

Same Here, I’ve spent  weeks to choose.
Never was Razer before, because of that reputation, pricy and buggy.
But decided to go over the “Internet Bashing thing”.

DeathStalker V2, Deathstalker v2 pro, Blackwidow v3 mini, Basillisk v3 PRo. Deathstalker v2 pro TKL…

Tried Synpase, setup. Lost everything… must be me
set up everything, reboot, everything lost, arf… that muste be me.
Finished setting up a keyboard, OK I add a mouse, BLAM, everything lost… Mhhh that must be me.
set up to start at boot, nope, does not work,  maybe it needs admin rights ? tried, nope, reverts back, oh that works now.
Oh… but it says “Windows” profile, but it shows the ligthing of one of the other profiles.
Well… that cannot be me.

So I try the “Super New app”, know what ? you have your base profile, your create profiles A, B and C.
switching to a propfile and back, leady you to the previous profile, not the base profile, So base to A, A to base, base to B, B to base… OK
but base to A, to B, will revert to A…. and of course after a reboot. you lost everything.

I tried the support, tried an email, no answers, I tr5ied top look in the forums but…. OK… never an answer no aknowledgement…

Started with many keybords, mouse, I’m about to unplug everything, go back to the store, pay the returne fee and feeling good for loosing a little money for once, instead of constantly fighting to become a customer and a user… I don’t want to try to use something every minute.

@Razer…. just do something , explain, make people wait… geeks do get tired of spending and loosing hours of rebugging.

And, not beeing able to store a basic profile onboard for multiple hundreds dollars costly keyboard is just NON SENSE, you a re forced to install and setup synapse everywhere, but then if you have 3 stuff on one machine and only 2 on the other… DRAMAAAA Go RE RE RE RE RE RE RE….RE setup everything.

this is just not acceptable.

Has been a problem for the majority of the time I have used the Naga Trinity, Blackwidow V2, and Tartarus. Just about every time this happens it is a 2-3 hour ordeal convincing Windows and Synapse to get along. This is also across four different systems, 2 Alienware, 1 HP Omen, and a custom built desktop. Agree with everyone else in thread this is not a problem with our hardware or equipment, it’s a software problem between Synapse and the OS.

Razer, do better.

I have similar issue all caused by the synapse software.  I use the Huntsman v2 keyuboard, the Naga X, Goliathus extended chroma mousbad and Nari headphones. The Nagamouse no longer wants to use the side buttons as bound to the numpad keys as set up in my profile UNLESS i quit synapse ! Once I quit synapse many keyboard short cuts stop working such as Alt-Tab. It drives me nuts.

It never used to be a problem even if software was never brilliant. I liked the hardware so cut it some slack.

Now I’m considering binning £100s of pounds of gear just because the software isnt fit for purpose.

Amen!

Synapse is a real headache.

I have the Razer Blackshark pro v2 and the software just can’t enable customisation for it and says i need to set it as default device every time i start synapse. It detects it but won’t let me configure anything.

The microphone on this headset is a nightmare aswell. It’s real low and can not pic up the sound as a microphone should. All settings in windows are set for it but no, it’s just useless.

The response from Razer to adress issues is just horrible slow, if they do anything about it at all.

This is the last time i buy ANY Razer product at all. NEVER AGAIN!

I have the Huntsman keyboard and Basilisk X mouse. I like them but have had consistent problems from day 1 with the mouse just quitting and needing a battery-removal restart to work again. I found advice suggesting Synapse might be the problem, and lo and behold it is. Quit that and going on 2 days with no mouse failures when previously I was lucky to get through a couple hours.

It looks like people have complained about this for a long time and I have yet to see any response from Razer. So, bleah. What’s next? What’s a decent mech keyboard and mouse with software that works and a company that gives a fig when it doesn’t?
