Razer Barracuda Pro - Bad Audio Quality when Mic is used | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Hi!

I'm on Windows 10, all my Drivers and Softwares are a 100% up to date.

However.. i can't find the solution for the following problem.

The headsets audioquality is awesome when i am NOT in a Voice chat (Discord, Zoom, etc.) But whenever i join in one, or something uses the headsets Microphone the sound quality drops daramtically.. like its mono or stereo (idk.) with almost no bass. And when i leave or close the app that uses the mic its fine again.

I couldn't find any Settings in Synapse nor the basic windows Audio Device settings.

I found some forums online where they assume that this is some "hands-free" functionality when using Bluetooth headphones but idk about that.

It's very frustrating that i can't enjoy an awesome game with amazing sound when i am playing with my friends and speaking to them. The previous headset i owned whic is a Logitech G935 didn't had that kind of problem. So there is definitely something with the Barracuda Pro.

Thanks!

I have the same issues. Even with steam chat.

Same issue…

A reply from Razer would be great.

It seems it's related to the mic. When I use the mic from the laptop, instated off the mic on the headphone, the audio stays good. In my case, it’s both with the USB c dongle as while with Bluetooth.

This issue should be fixed, consider the price off the headphones

I have recently bought Barracuda Pro and have come across with this issue as well. I noticed that it occurs if the ANC is either on or at Ambient mode. At off-stage the issue doesn’t reproduce. As said, at least some of the applications need to be activating the microphone. For me an easy way to reproduce was to use Discord’s mic test by having music playing on the background. When activating the mic check the sound decreased immediately, and improves equally fast. This is a huge deal breaker in gaming as its either ANC or sound quality, but never both.

Used firmware versions 1.5.0.0 and 1.5.2.0 on W10.

I am also having this problem with firmware 1.5.2.0 on Windows 11. It’s like the headset’s ANC is cancelling its own audio output, but only when the microphone function is in-use by the device the headset dongle is connected to. Sound quality is fine when the headset’s ANC/Ambient passthrough functions are turned off.

I just purchased a Barracuda X and it is having the exact same issue. The quality is unbearably bad when I join voice chat. I finally save up for a nice headset and this is a dealbreaker, if I don’t find a solution by tonight I will be returning the headset and avoiding Razer products in the future. Such a waste of time and money.

I have the same problem with my barracuda x and the sound is also getting worse while in a voice chat i dont know what to do and because i am in germany i dont even have a real chance to get to the support because most is in english ore based in the us. But what ca i do to get good audio it is a shame that the sound gets so bad

i found a solution disable blutooth and only use the delivered 2.4ghz adapter than it works even with 7.1 surround sound.

Solution – install Razer Audio app (iphone/andriod) and put headset into gaming mode.

As I understood this mode will force headset to use 2.4Gh instead of bluetooth.

I regret buying razer barracuda x so much…. been busy for hours problem after problem… but yeah as some people mention above my sound quality decrease insanely when I use discord… HJNIUZ8SDX<HDIADHIASOHDSAUHIDSADHSAOJHDPSAIDAS

tHIS HEADSET IS TRASH. It randomly turns off with my phone or gaming. It does not matter. same issue when i try to use the mic in steam. I want a refund

I just got this headset recently and I had the same issue as everyone else did when I first connected. It sounded horrible. When I connected to Discord, it sounded robotic. When I tried to listen to music on Spotify it sounded like it was underwater.
I was able to get mine fixed by simply disconnecting from the bluetooth pairing that you do on the headset like you would wireless earbuds. Make sure the bluetooth is off on your computer. Then just switch it to connect to the dongle instead. With your bluetooth on your computer off, hold down the power button until it connects to the dongle. You will know it is this one because it will say connected to Hyper speed. When it connected this way, I got clear quality and could hear people on Discord and my music.

this solved my problem

This isn’t a problem with the Razer specifically, it happens with all Bluetooth. Bluetooth just doesn’t really have enough bandwidth to support crisp audio and clear mic quality at the same time so you’re going to have to use the adapter instead to achieve that.

Same problem here - significant drop in audio quality when mic is used. Connected through USB dongle not BlueTooth

Thanks so much it works perfectly now with good sound even with discord using the mic

I have the same issue with my headset. The microphone audio quality is, and it it’s an understatement - horrific. Just so you understand the extent of how bad it sounds, cover any decent mic with a bowl and start scratching it with a fork all while talking. Yep, that would be what you’d get with this headset’s mic, pure jittery, robotic horror. And it doesn’t matter if it’s connected via Bluetooth  or 2.4GHz mode, whether it’s a PC or any other device, the result is the same. If you know you’re going to use the mic a lot, that would be the last headset on earth to buy. In the contrary the sound quality of this headset is really good, like worth the price good

I have this “thing” for more than a year now, if you are using 2.4ghz, the deal is simple:
You can only have two of these:

  • Good Audio Quality
  • Mic
  • ANC

If you have an external mic or u r watching a movie, u are good to go.
If you are gaming in a silent machine (not a razer blade) and don’t care about ANC , u are good to go.
