Razer Barracuda X Chroma — Unable to Activate 7.1 or THX Spatial Audio (Only Stereo Working)

Hello everyone,

About a month ago, I purchased Razer’s Barracuda X Chroma headset. However, I can’t activate either 7.1 or THX audio in any way. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling all related software multiple times, but they still don’t work. The applications open, but the options remain greyed out, and they don’t appear in the sound devices list either.

I’ve already tried all the recommended troubleshooting methods, but none of them worked. All my drivers and Windows are up to date with the latest versions. I’m about to return the headset at this point. When I test it in 7.1 sound tests, it’s clear that it doesn’t work — it only functions in stereo mode, meaning I only get sound from the left and right channels.

Please, someone help me with this. Thank you in advance.

The 7.1 Surround Sound activation code comes with the purchase of your Razer Barracuda x Chroma. Register your product on the Razer Product Registration Website - https://www.razer.com/product-registration

Once done, there should be an app you can install which comes with Razer’s synapse app. The app will be called 7.1 Surround Sound and will allow you to toggle 7.1 on and off.

First of all, I recommend that you read the issue I’m experiencing once again. I already activated the product with the code that came with it. The software simply isn’t working.

Have you tried in-game settings for games? Like setting the audio device as 7.1 Surround sound input. I’m sure you’ve probably already tried this, but check your sound output in the bottom right of your task bar.

I mean… I’m not sure if you’re joking with me at this point, but please read what I wrote again. 😊

Yes, of course I checked the in-game settings, the output device, the Windows sound panel, and literally every recommended step. The issue isn’t about selecting the wrong device — the THX and 7.1 software won’t even activate. They stay greyed out and don’t appear as output devices at all.

So unfortunately, the problem is deeper than just switching the output device in the taskbar.

But thanks anyway!
