My headphones work perfectly fine when they are connected to my laptop wirelessly via the dongle but when they are plugged in the audio sounds as if I have water stuck in my ear and people tell me my mic sounds terrible. I don't know the reason for this, I have checked the mic and the wired cable visual for any dirt or anything else and I can't see anything.

Try to update the audio driver of your PC (Realtek audio driver). You can also follow the steps here for further isolation. If that didn't help, let me know through PM so I can validate its model and look for other workarounds to help you resolve the audio problem.
