RAZER BLACKWIDOW V3 on Linux | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Hello.

I am stuck on Linux with a BW v3 that is rotating colors like in a Christmas tree. Apart from that, the keyboard works well and I'm very happy. Of course, I connected it to a Windows machine to setup a static color, but alas, just unplugging it resets it to the rotating color mode.

So I thought that I should have read the fine prints before buying the product. But no, there are no fine prints!

This is plain and simple false advertising. What I have a is Christmas light in the shape of a keyboard... This is very sad because the keyboard is really awesome.

Is there no way to stop the rotating color? I understand it to be the default for when the user plugs it in for the first time, this is sensible. But force feeding it to anyone that doesn't have "the software" ? This is not sensible at all.

A moderately happy customer.

(How moderately will depend on the official answer to this request)
Hey.. I can type! It wouldn't let me type in these boxes for a while.. anyway.. I tried to replay saying is there an API or anything, but then did a search for razer or synaptic package manager and saw an openrazer or some such. I just installed it all. Wish me luck.. maybe give it a go for you to with whatever your package manager is.
Thanks for your input unRheal.

Unfortunately the BW v3 isn't supported yet by openrazer. And in the official support forum I would have thought that pointing to an open source project that RAZER purposefully hurt by refusing to publish the protocol they use with their keyboard is a bit of a stretch.
I'm Very sorry for the lengthy delay replying. I wrote a long boring story of the inhumane treatment I went through, but everybody goes ahhh.. we all got our problems (boring) .... Until about when I turned 50 I was depressed and suicidal. I've been programming since 78, and AI since 86 (went to annual AAAI conference in Seattle in 87) but about 4 or 5 years ago, I watched a bunch of Top AI coders and designers, etc. on podcasts, and a bunch of pieces fell into place. I just have nobody I know that understands me after 15 seconds, and.. Even if I met someone, I would have to figure out how to possibly trust them with 7 billion lives.

Anyway, I was just redoing my rules after an OS reinstall (30th or 40th *easy* in the last 8 months, trying different distros and stuff), till I can afford a machine with multiple $6000 graphics cards. 😉 ... and email reinstall and saw your reply.. apologies again.

I only bought my keyboard a month or less before I left the first reply... it says Model No.: (chinese?) RZ03-0286

I'm guessing the RZ03 means Razer Blackwidow v03?

Anyway.. after all this time, maybe you got it working? I got it working pretty quickly after ... just kept searching, and found a few different attempts, and one that seems to have done the job.

The commands are command line, but Python, so pretty easy to make little changes.

Truth is, I just set a nice flowing rainbow and left it and don't recall offhand the commands or packages... let me know if you figured it out, and maybe mention how for others... or if you didn't I'll dig around a bit and figure out which of the multiple packages I installed actually ended up working. ;)

Not familiar with this site.. can you email me? If I don't reply in a few days, I might have missed it again. When I turned 50 or so, I became less depressed because I figured I had even one in a zillion chance to actually make the world better... I realized for the first time in my life what it means for time to be valuable.. if I can't beat the billionaires, or give the plans to someone I trust THAT much - before I go find out if there's life after death willingly or not.. time actually became valuable. 😉 If someone power hungry wins, they could easily control the world. China said "We WILL be first." and they can for sure afford an annual Trillion dollar+ budget. They just don't know what I do.

Let me know - I'll try to keep an eye out.

Cheers
