Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting an S3 Sleep issue on my Razer Blade 15 Advanced 2020 (RZ09-0330 / RZ09-03304E42) and I've managed to narrow it down quite a bit.

The problem:
When I select Start → Power → Sleep, the display turns black, but the laptop never fully enters S3. The fans remain running, the green status LED keeps flashing, and the laptop will not wake. I eventually have to force it off.

Hibernate has also had issues, but I'm currently troubleshooting S3 specifically with hibernation disabled.

What I've already checked/updated:

  • BIOS is 1.06 (latest for this model)
  • EC is v0101
  • Intel ME firmware updated to 14.1.53.1649
  • Intel UHD graphics updated to 31.0.101.2141
  • Secure Boot is working normally
  • RTC/CMOS battery was replaced
  • Windows system files checked with SFC/DISM — no corruption
  • powercfg /requests shows None for everything
  • Tested S3 with the NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super Max-Q disabled — still fails
  • Tested with Thunderbolt controller disabled — still fails
  • Tested with Intel AX201 Wi-Fi disabled — still fails

The interesting discovery:

My Intel Dynamic Tuning service is:

Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning service (esifsvc)

It runs:

...\dptf_cpu.inf...\esif_uf.exe

The installed Intel DPTF/Dynamic Tuning package is:

8.7.10802.26924 (04/11/2022)

Components include:

  • Intel Dynamic Tuning Manager
  • Intel Dynamic Tuning Generic Participants
  • Intel Dynamic Tuning Processor Participant
  • dptf_acpi.sys
  • dptf_cpu.sys
  • esif_uf.exe / esifsvc

I stopped only esifsvc using:

Stop-Service -Name esifsvc -Force

and immediately tested S3 again.

S3 Sleep worked normally.

So on this machine:

esifsvc running → S3 hangs
esifsvc stopped → S3 works

I currently have esifsvc disabled as a temporary workaround, but I don't really want to permanently disable Intel Dynamic Tuning because of its role in the laptop's thermal/power management.

Windows Update isn't offering a newer Dynamic Tuning/DPTF driver.

I have also managed to obtain the official ~16 GB Razer factory recovery image for the RZ09-0330 directly from Razer, so I'm planning to inspect it for the original factory DPTF driver and compare it with the currently installed 8.7.10802.26924 package.

Has anyone with a 2020 Blade 15 Advanced experienced this?

In particular, I'd really appreciate knowing:

  • What DPTF/Dynamic Tuning driver version your RZ09-0330 is using
  • Whether you have esifsvc running and S3 Sleep works
  • Whether anyone has the original Razer DPTF driver package for this model
  • Whether rolling back DPTF fixed S3 Sleep or anyone knows if this has updates

I'd prefer to use a Razer-specific driver rather than installing a DPTF package from another OEM.

Thanks!
