I’ve had my Razer Blade 16 2023 for approximately a year and a half now and it is outside of the manufacturer warranty period. About a week and a half ago it developed a strange problem where the right lower corner of the trackpad began making a high-pitched clicking noise.
It happens just prior to actually depressing the corner as one would when actuating the trackpad. It feels as if it has a bit of pre-travel before it reaches the “wall” of force needed to be overcome to actually click the trackpad and the clicking occurs when the bottom of that initial bit of pre-travel is met.
This issue is not 100% consistent and appears 50-70 % of the time I click on that area of the trackpad and is limited to that quadrant of the trackpad (just the 4th quadrant of a standard 2D graph). It also seems to come and go in waves where the trackpad won’t make the sound at all for approximately 10 actuations and then it will return for a while. The left portion (quadrant 3) does not exhibit the pre-travel issue nor does it make the clicking sound.
To me, it almost feels like a loose screw is causing more play than should be there however I have not opened it up to check. I am hoping that if this is a mechanical issue it is something easy for me to fix. I am really not looking forward to sinking another few hundred dollars into repairs for a laptop that cost me almost $4,000. Not to mention I really need my laptop while at uni and can’t afford to ship it off for a few weeks.
Has anyone else had an issue similar to this? I have searched a little on the forums and have seen similar problems but most of them just involved people returning the device or making a warranty claim.
For reference:
This reddit post has a video that I believe depicts the issue. It appears that that OP decided to return it after attempting to tighten a screw.
