Razer Blade 2018 1070 Max Q Overheating when connected to external monitor

Hi guys, I recently connected the above laptop to a 24:9 LG Monitor from ~2015. Monitor is still in great shape, connection was no problem, and I set the res to 3440x1440. The problems begin when I play any game, or load Unity. Both chips start to overheat and the fans go nuts. This doesn't happen if i'm just playing on the laptop. We're talking crazy temps of 90+ and fan speeds that sound like a vacuum cleaner. Any idea whats causing this?
