Razer Blade Pro 2020 can't update Nvidia drivers

Userlevel 1
Can't update it and tech support has no clue how to get this fixed. It is going to be escalated. Let's see how long it takes to get this resolved.

I wouldn't presume that, given that I myself dealt with the very same problem. What I did, if I recall correctly, I switched to Optimus (use an external monitor or a TV if you don't own a monitor) if you can't get out of the GPU mode.

Once in Optimus mode, I made all the changes deep in advanced settings. Again, it could be that I simply got lucky, but my screen never goes turns off unless I command it to and it never goes into hibernation.

I have been able to boot into GPU mode without any problems, again, I could've just gotten lucky but then again, computers are not magical are they?

Razer should offer FREE replacements to all of us and subsequently, STOP selling this laptop unit this issue is resolved.

Should we file a lawsuit?

I'm betting on the horse that says you got lucky. I just tried installing the latest NVIDIA Drivers, disabled hibernation (powercfg.exe /hibernate off), then went into settings and where it says "Choose what closing the LID does", I changed it to "do nothing". So the laptop shouldn't go to sleep ever or hibernate.

It worked fine on Optimus as expected. When set to Dedicated GPU, it had output through the BIOS welcome screen and then even the HDMI output went blank on Windows Login Screen.

Seconded. This was not a cheap laptop. I've invested so much time and even upgraded the RAM and SSD. I'd hate to have to return this thing but it's not much useful the way it is right now.

As soon as things start working again, I'm gonna take a BIOS + VBIOS dump, write down my NVIDIA Driver, Intel Driver and Windows version and not upgrade this thing. This is the second time this laptop has been rendered useless by updates. I hate it.
Razer Blade Pro 17 4K (late '19) - BIOS 1.04 - Win 20H2 build 19042.685 - NVIDIA game ready driver 460.89

Yesterday it was quite similar. After I opened the cover to wake the laptop from hibernation, the BIOS message appeared, the Razer logo and the dotted circle from the windows boot and as soon as the login screen should come up, the screen went dark and kept it this way until reboot. Before this, it worked approximately a dozent of times. Also the normal screen saver needs to be turned off to avoid black screen. I'm certain, when I install the next NVIDIA update, the screen will also stay black and needs a reboot.
I was never able to get another GPU driver to install - except for the last functioning one. Like, it would go through the install process and then flicker and then black screen. Every. Single. Bloody. Time. I finally set mine up for a refund and ordered and XPS 17, fully loaded. The gaming capabilities aren't as good and I'm going to miss that 120hz screen (I think, I barely got to use it) - but to know I have a laptop I can use every single time I open it or update it is a huge bonus.
I like many of you, have been having the same issue (can't wake up from sleep, opening lid to black screen etc.) On the latest bios for my late 2019 4k 120hz and having all the same problems as you have all explained. I can get into windows and play some games, but most of the time when I go full screen I get the dreaded black screen. Nothing works other than plugging in secondary montior or hard reset) I have followed all the suggestions on here, including now submitting a case with razer as per speed.cross request. Support has gotten back to me asking some
Support has gotten back to me asking some weird questions prior to escalatiny my case (such as proof I was told to submit a claim)? Strange, I'll keep you all posted with what support says. Only driver versions that works is 452 (August 2020) other than that, nothing but issues. Let's hope we get some resolution soon
Hello, please go to the link and give Nvidia feedback about the driver. The more you give feedback, the higher the chance that something will change.

Not sure if this would at least improve the situation:
Nvidia actually released a hotfix last week for the latest driver (it's not listed in the downloads page) that addresses a couple of issues. This supplements the latest driver of 460.89.

The driver 460.97 can be downloaded here: GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 460.97 | NVIDIA (custhelp.com)

Additionally, I don't know if you have Intel graphics updated as well, but it's worth giving a try. The latest version released is at 27.20.100.9079: Download Intel®️ Graphics - Windows®️ 10 DCH Drivers
Driver 460.97 doesn't solve anything for me. Still always black screen with energy save and sometimes with hibernation too.

Ahhh, that sucks to hear. I hope they'd have a fix for that soon...
well not sure if any of you have found a fix, I have been in contact with Razer for the past 2 weeks, and they are literally jerking me around, every day I get a generic canned update stating they are "working on it" after about 2 weeks they have the gull to tell me "we suggest you enable Optimus" as if that's a solution.... absolutely ridiculous, I am embarrased for Razer, I literally have about 10k worth of their products and they could care less. i am beyond frustrated and getting nowhere... what a JOKE
I reverted back to 452.06 again. There are several black screen issues besides the energy saving. Still waiting for a real solution from Razer.
I'm on the phone with Razer support (of course it's a non-US call center with reps that know nothing) I'm told they are aware of the issue and have no ETA. The said the solution is to use Optimus. (*Omitted). I paid EXTRA for a 120hz screen and a high-end video card. The solution should not be to NOT USE THEM AS ADVERTSIED. I asked to return my laptop as it's effectively a paper weight at this point and it is not fulfilling it's advertised function as a GAMING PC if you can't update to the latest drivers from NVIDIA without cutting features that I paid for. I'm told I'm out side the 14 day return window... (*Omitted). I am never purchasing a Razer product ever again and I will never recommend anyone else does either.

I am sorry but there are no updates on Synapse, Windows or Nvidia, specially not 491 (The latest is 461.09)

When should we expect these updates?

Thanks

Hey guys! Sorry for the typo. What I meant was version 461 (461.09). If your Windows OS and Synapse 3.0 is updated, then you are all good. Please proceed with the NVIDIA GeForce driver update and check the laptop's display behavior. If there's will be another Razer Blade Pro 17 driver release, I'll ensure to update this thread right away.
Razer Blade Pro 17 2020 4k on the latest Windows 20H2 update with NVIDIA GeForce driver version 461.09 on latest Synapse

Not fixed, still only 60hz option in Razer Synapse
Changing to 120hz in bios still gives black screen, have to plug in an external monitor via HDMI to revert

Razer Blade Pro 17 2020 4k 120hz.
Updated Nvidia 461.09 drivers, windows and synapse, returns black screen on dedicated GPU.
I had to go back to optimus 60hz mode.

Honestly, we are now in 2021 and the issue has not been fixed yet, this is totally unacceptable. I have noticed that Razer just announced the 2021 17 Pro 4k 120hz is apparently using the same display, one would think that the new version does not share the same problems as the 2019/2020 versions.
Given that we are all past the refund window and we havent had a solution, Razer should allow us to warranty replace our 2020 laptops with the 2021 version if it indeed does work as intended.
@Razer.SpeedCr0ss Heads up, I'm going to file a dispute against Razer in court in 30 days if this is not fixed.
I have the 2020 17in 4k 120hz Razer laptop and I haven't had those black screen issues for over a few months now and I always update the drivers. Have you guys tried updating your bios to 1.05? Also the only issue that occurs often if I try to record from GeForce Experience the laptop will sometime freeze constantly. Until I reset the laptop which is annoying.
> Have you guys tried updating your bios to 1.05

Look at my signature, I'm on BIOS v1.06 :)

> I haven't had those black screen issues for over a few months now

Are you using it on 60hz or 120hz? It works on 60hz but many of us paid extra for that 120hz.

Regardless, the issue exists, and it's on Razer, not you, I'm awaiting their fix
