Razer Book 13 Screen Panel Black Out; Screlen Failing | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

After 11 months’ use of my first Book 13, the laptop screen panel starts to black out out of sudden. When the lid is open above certain angle, the screen panel backlight will go off. When I close the lid a bit more, the screen panel will work again.

However, the workable agnle is very small and unstable. The whole laptop is totally unusuable unless it is plugged into a monitor.

Since my first Book 13 is within warrenty, I got an official replacement of a brand new machine. This machine also had some BSOD issues, which was resolved by ANOTHER replacement of the motherboard.

However, after one year’s use of the replaced replaced laptop, the screen is Failing again. The screen will not work after the lid is opened over 35 degrees. The panel is 99% black. The laptop is again unusable.

So, if you have the same issue, please try HALF open the lid. At certain angle (low enough), you will see the backlight of the panel back on. But if you open the lid any further, the backlight will go out again.

This is totally a quality control issue or design default of Razer. If you have similar experience, please voice to Razer and let them know Book 13 is failing just after about one year’s use!

Thanks for your post, I'm having similar issues on my device. I can't replicate the back light coming on at any angle, but I might take a look at the ribbon cables and see if they're crushed/damaged since I am SOL on a warranty.

Am having the same issue again … its the second screen already …barely 1 year from the earlier replacement ..  really some serious design or manufacturing issue man!!! Any where to get it resolved beside at razer?

I am having this same issue now. Has anyone found a reason for this or know how to fix it without sending it in?

I have the same bug. Finally, it is very dim even when fully open. I wonder if I should just cry myself to sleep.

Hi All,

We have purchased 6x Razer books earlier this year and 4x of them are experiencing this issue. Has anyone found a root cause? I am hoping for a simple ‘re-seat the ribbon cable’ fix. I am not feeling hopeful about it.

It is a shame because we absolutely love them. I am hoping for a simple fix to bring them back to life instead of replacing what is an otherwise excellent machine.

Same issue for me. Screen started going salt and pepper then blacks out. I have to adjust the angle just right to get it back on.

My laptop Same issue 😞. I don't know Razer will order a replacement screen ?

My Razer book is having the same issue, I'm a streamer the laptop screen was useful for reading chat, but now only works with the main monitor. Has anyone found a way to solve that? I'm very disappointed with Razer by now. How does an expensive laptop like this have chronic issues without a recall or an answer from the brand?

Hi, same issue here. Razerbook 13 bought exactly 2y ago. screen started to dim (to almost dark) at low angle about 1mth ago. Now screen does not even light up, and is not recognized anymore. Can only use HDMI plug.

Same problem for me. One would think a laptop should hold more than 2 years. They want me to pay for the repairs. 😫

This is the last razer product I will buy.

I found the cause: when I disassembled the PC, I found that the LCD Flex Cable on the screen was torn and disconnected.
The part where it opens is very weak. It is a hardware design error.
Unless we can get the cable, there is no hope of repairing the problem.

same issue, highly dissapointed after just using the laptop for simple office stuff and just 2 years of use. Never would buy anything razer again.

Me too , facing same issue

Very disappointed with the Razed Product !

Ditto, having the same issue.

Here’s a similar reddit thread, someone was able to get a non-response from Razer showing unwillingness to do anything about the problem…

Hello same issue here too! Has anyone found a solution? Is there a class action lawsuit that could be brought to attention? please correct me if I’m wrong but if it’s a faulty product connected to the motherboard it would be Razer’s responsibility to replace it with or without warranty?

thanks for sharing...

I have same issue. Stared off having to open wider and wider to get to work.

now at max angle and screen gone out.

I'm assuming flex cable problem

have contacted London office and they don't do repairs.

have contacted tech help  they want a video of screen!!! Yep its black no light.

Same issue here. Quite frustrating since it is a clear design flaw. I have honestly enjoyed the PC immensely as a daily driver for on the road as the size/form factor , battery, and other build quality is quite nice.

The most frustrating part is the inability to purchase the ribbon cable replacement which would make the repair feasible if still a bit complex due to the glued screen.

My local repair shop.said I may be able to find a computer with a bad motherboard and a working screen to use in a frabken rebuild but that's the only option and I'm not seeing anything.

I reached out to sorin electronics who have the YouTube video repairing the ribbon to see if they can fix this but as a US customer it's unclear after shipping etc if that will be worth the cost.

Anyone with further updates here will be a godsend🙏
