Razer Book 13 Screen Panel Black Out; Screlen Failing | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

After 11 months’ use of my first Book 13, the laptop screen panel starts to black out out of sudden. When the lid is open above certain angle, the screen panel backlight will go off. When I close the lid a bit more, the screen panel will work again.

However, the workable agnle is very small and unstable. The whole laptop is totally unusuable unless it is plugged into a monitor.

Since my first Book 13 is within warrenty, I got an official replacement of a brand new machine. This machine also had some BSOD issues, which was resolved by ANOTHER replacement of the motherboard.

However, after one year’s use of the replaced replaced laptop, the screen is Failing again. The screen will not work after the lid is opened over 35 degrees. The panel is 99% black. The laptop is again unusable.

So, if you have the same issue, please try HALF open the lid. At certain angle (low enough), you will see the backlight of the panel back on. But if you open the lid any further, the backlight will go out again.

This is totally a quality control issue or design default of Razer. If you have similar experience, please voice to Razer and let them know Book 13 is failing just after about one year’s use!

Mine is only one year and a half old, started to black the screen unless certain angle, now is always dark excepting external monitor.

I bought it because it´s supposed to be top brand top quality, i realized it´s only top priced

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

This is definitely a design fault with the screen cable malfunctioning after about one year’s use. Unfortunately, most of the Book 13 would be out of warranty now and Razer would have no obligation to repair them for free.

I have also checked with China’s official support since I bought mine there. They  mentioned that the same configuration screen panels have been stopped in production. Since the screen panel is assembled as a whole, there would be no ways to just repair / replace the faulty cable, our Book 13 can only be used as a workstation instead of a laptop.

Unless as others have mentioned, you are lucky to source another Book 13 with working screen but faulty motherboard, there would be no ways to repair it at all.

This looks like the end of all these laptops and good luck to anyone who bought Book 13, experienced the same issue, having no ways to fix and found this post.

This might be related to the integrated graphics/dedicated graphics, try pressing Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B, this is a shortcut to manually refresh graphics drivers.

Nope, seems to be the backlight turning off. Can still vaguely see the shape of the DE under certain lights.

I got the support yesterday, sharing this thread and others on reddit.

They say the part is not available but can still request for repair. Repair department contacted me saying they could repair it. But obviously 90$ for the diagnosis, then 120$ for labour, then quotation, then blah…. So a bit too expensive for my taste for something that has not been tested properly and pretty much sure they couldn’t repair anyway.

This is the most ridiculously absurd reply I can ever think of.
Before I did my three RMAs, I have followed all of your checks and ruled out the possibility of graphics problem and then I got my RMA initiated.

Please understand more about the problem and read our stories instead of just saying so. Thank you

I will just post my invoice from August 2023 here. A screen repair will cost €488.8 for component and €120 for manual fees for a clearly design flaw.

Worst thing is this thread is inside official´s Razer forum, so the company knows the problem and does nothing about it. “ Warranty is off, sorry “.

A proper company would call all the potentially affected customers to offer a solution to the problem. I realized why they retired so soon this beautiful laptop from production with “ no reason “, it was really strange to me. Now i have the answer….

Just started happening to my 15 month old Book 13. If I'm lucky I can find an hinge angle where the screen still works. This is on an RMA replacement laptop I was given after my first Book 13 developed 2 vertical green lines after 3 months. First and last Razer purchase I think.

This is just the beginning. After 2-3 months this angle stops working too and becomes a dark screen

Hi,

I have the same problem with my 18 month old Razer Book 13. After 18 months of use, the display suddenly remained black. Only an external monitor still works and the laptop display is no longer recognized in Windows.

Is there an official statement from Razer about this problem?

“ Official statement “ =  Stop production! Warranty time is over!
