Razer Core X Chroma Windows 10 Stability | Razer Insider

Hi,

I recently bought the Razer Core X Chroma and installed Asus RTX 2080 Super card on it. I connected Core X to Razer Blade 15 (2020). Unfortunately, I've been experiencing random freezing of the system and needed to do a hard reboot whenever it happened. I tried to reset my system and updated the graphics driver etc. But, the system still freezes very frequently and randomly; especially when I'm not playing games.

May I know whether there's a solution for this random freezing. I hope I can get some support as the freezing is making the laptop quite unusable now.

[update] I've just disabled the intel integrated graphics processor. Will monitor whether this helps.

Anyone, please advise if you have similar experience and has found a solution to the freezing problem. Thanks so much in advacne!
Hello! I also purchased a Razer Blade 15 (2020) model. It has a 2060 built in card. I also have an EVGA 2080 and just last night took out the new Core X Chroma for a test drive. Wow what a pile of junk. Not only does it make an otherwise great laptop completely unstable, but it performs like CRAP! I play Apex for the most part and saw random split second freezing as well as frame dips to 40fps. A 2080 getting 40fps at 1080p res? WHAT?

The internal 2060 card is by far better. I am returning the Core x chroma today. After reading up on this a lot more, it sounds like others experience the same issue. It looks like the only time an eGPU is a good idea is if your Thunderbolt 3 capable laptop doesn't have an internal GPU. In that scenario getting 40 to 60fps in Apex would be better than nothing. At $800 for a video card and $400 for the Core X Chroma, absolutely not worth it.

Here's the update. Disabling integrated graphics processor does not work. But, I read somewhere that there's a Razer Cortex Power Plan in the Power Option setting. It's not that obvious at first glance. You need to expand the option to see it. I think this could be the solution because I've not experience another of those random freeze after the change *touch wood*.
Would you mind testing Apex for me? What kind of frame rates are you getting at 1080 resolution?

Hi, I tested with the default setting (see screen shot). I think I'm getting FPS around 80ish.

Thanks.. Man, 80 fps with an RTX 2080 Super, YUCK! In a desktop that would be pushing 144 fps max settings easy. If you have to keep your eGPU for whatever reason, it looks like you can return the 2080 and purchase a much lower end card. The eGPU is a huge bottleneck it appears.

****Edit, wait. I notice you have 3440x1440.. Interesting. Again I had a 2080 (not super) connected to the Core X Chroma with a Razer Blade 15 base model (2020).. At 2560 res, my system was struggling between 40 and 65 frames or so during gameplay. It was awful. Are you getting 80 fps consistently or..?
