razer rz09-0196 and thunderbolt 4 dock chroma not working

Finally pulled the trigger on a Thunderbolt 4 dock chroma to go with my razer rz09-0196 and to my surprise it is not

  • lighting up
  • detecting network

It is however charging my laptop and passing the display to an external usb-c to dvi monitor.

Is this a compatibility issue? It never occurred to me that the chroma may not support a usb-c based razer laptop, but now that I’m looking for it, I don't see my laptop on the following list, though some features seem to work.

Should I return or is there something I’m not doing correctly?

SOLUTION:

I found that though I had the Razer Synapse 3 software on the laptop, it did not recognize the laptop much less the dock. As such I performed the following which got me to where things are working. All of the following may or may not be necessary but it is what I did.

  1. removed synapse 3
  2. installed synapse 2 - this version for whatever reason recognized the laptop. Ran all updates but dock still was not recognized.
  3. Found the thunderbolt driver listed for this specific laptop and installed it. I would have thought that the synapse software would have detected an update available but it didn't.
  4. Found a reference to the thunderbolt control center  which was not on my machine that I installed from Microsoft’s website. https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N6F0JV38PH1?hl=en-US&gl=US

It was somewhere here that the dock was recognized and the light came on.

Then synapse updated itself back to version 3 and did a few other updates.  Now everything seems to be working.

Hopefully this helps.
