Razer Synapse Macro Randomly Gets Stuck in Infinite Loop – Massive Issue Since Yesterday

Hi everyone,

I would like to report a serious issue related to the Macro feature in Razer Synapse that seems to have started appearing widely since yesterday.

Issue Description

When using the Macro function, even with extremely simple macros (for example, repeatedly triggering the number key “1”), there is a chance that the macro becomes stuck in an infinite loop.

Once this happens:

  • The macro keeps triggering continuously and cannot be stopped

  • Razer Synapse becomes unresponsive

  • The Synapse interface cannot be opened

  • The system keeps receiving repeated key inputs endlessly

The only way to recover is to restart the computer.

However, after rebooting, if the macro feature is used again, the issue may occur again randomly.

Impact

This problem is extremely disruptive because:

  • The macro becomes uncontrollable

  • Synapse stops responding completely

  • The system is flooded with continuous key inputs

Scope of the Issue

This does not appear to be an isolated case.

Since yesterday, I have seen many users reporting the same issue across multiple Chinese platforms including:

  • Douyin

  • Xiaohongshu

  • Bilibili

There are a large number of reports, and many users confirm that:

  • The issue happens immediately after using macros

  • It affects both Razer mous and keyboards

  • It occurs across different device models

This suggests it may be a widespread Synapse bug rather than a hardware issue.

Possible Cause

I am not sure whether this might be related to:

  • A recent Synapse update

  • A background / gradual rollout (gray update)

  • A change in the macro engine

But the timing strongly suggests something changed recently.

Summary

  • Macro may become stuck in an infinite trigger loop

  • Synapse becomes unresponsive

  • Only rebooting the computer can recover

  • Issue started appearing widely since yesterday

  • Occurs across multiple devices and users

I hope the Razer team can investigate this issue as soon as possible, as it appears to be affecting a large number of users.

Thanks.

You’re not alone…

I’ve been on this for 2 days now. I have a simple macro i use (press key X hold 0.100ms release)
This macro always worked in Synapse 3 and did work last weekend in Synapse 4 also.
Now it’s getting in a random stuck loop like OP described in his post, exactly the same.

Tried uninstalling Synapse 4, used removal tool and restarted installed again.. same issue. Macro stuck in a loop and Synapse unresponsive.
Tried to remove all again and clean install Synapse 3 as that one worked, but it doesn't recognize any of my razor devices anymore. This is really annoying!!!

Also checked it there could be an conflict with any other software, so exit all running background app and browsers.. but still the same results.

If anyone knows how i can get Synapse 3 working again let me know, as i don't think this will be fixed soon and i need my macro’s to work.

me too!, it drives me crazy recently!!! I do not even dare to group up in wow because it happens every day and several times a day and it requires hard reboot! it's a disaster if in a mythic run i do not want to mess up other people’s key!  As OP pointed out, when it happens all razer synapse software just stopped functioning and no other way cept reboot can fix it.  I even go offline mode and exported all macro/profiles locally, but problem still exists.  Razer team people, please fix it ASAP! I spent over $300 on your keyboard and mouse to get some enjoyment not annoyance!  your QC makes me think twice for any future purchase.

This seems to be a large-scale issue that is very easy to reproduce, yet so far I haven’t seen any official fix or clear response from Razer (maybe there is one, but I personally haven’t found it).

In the gaming group I play with, several people use Razer products. Our group isn’t huge, just a few dozen players, but among the five people using Razer devices, every single one of them has experienced this issue in the past few days.

Imagine being in the middle of a game, then suddenly everything gets stuck because of the macro bug, and the whole team wipes. I think you can imagine how frustrating that feels.

People who use Razer in our group are now being mocked and asked why we didn’t just buy Logitech, Corsair, or ASUS ROG instead.

From what we can tell, this issue seems to be directly related to the “Macro” feature. People who actually use macros are usually more advanced users, yet now we’re the ones suffering the consequences.

I even asked about this through the Razer WeChat account and contacted customer service on JD.com. The only response I keep getting is the same repeated suggestion: reinstall Synapse again and again.

The reality is that I have already reinstalled it many times, and the problem still keeps happening.

So what are we supposed to do? Just accept our bad luck? Should I sell all my Razer devices on a second-hand marketplace like Xianyu?

I currently own five full sets of Razer keyboards and mice, and right now all of them are basically unusable because of this issue. The experience has been extremely frustrating.

I also want to add something else.

During the past 1–2 years that I’ve been using Razer products, from Synapse 3 to Synapse 4, to be honest, the experience has never really been smooth.

Files get synced and overwritten repeatedly, configurations disappear, profiles get unexpectedly replaced, the software sometimes refuses to open, RGB lighting behaves incorrectly, devices are not detected, or devices randomly disconnect.

There are strange issues like this almost every month.

But this time it has really crossed the line. The system literally freezes because of a macro bug? What kind of issue is this supposed to be?

Was there even any proper testing before pushing this update? It feels like software with serious bugs was pushed directly to users without adequate validation.

And on the forum, there is still no response from anyone. Customer support just repeats the same answer over and over again: “reinstall Synapse”.

Is this really the level of quality Razer wants to deliver?

As one of my friends jokingly said to me: at this point, this experience is honestly worse than some cheap keyboards you can buy online.

At least those don’t secretly push updates that end up breaking the product itself.

And there is no option to revert even back to the last version of synapse 4, not even talking about synapse 3 that now just do not recognize my devices if i reinstall it.

I’ve been all over the internet to see if there is a new beta of how to revert back with a working synapse 3 (at least there did my macro’s work.)

Now i’m just sitting with useless hardware for what i bought it for in the first place.

Anyone got an idea at least to get Synapse 3 of an older version of Synapse 4 working?

From the information I’ve seen so far, there seem to be two possible workarounds.

The first one is to simply close or uninstall Synapse and stop using the macro feature entirely. Basically, just use the keyboard as a normal keyboard. At least this prevents the system from freezing.

Another thing I’ve seen mentioned is uninstalling certain input method software (for example, some third-party input methods). However, I’m not sure whether this actually works. Since most English users probably don’t use those input methods, this might not even be relevant for many people here.

For now, what I’m doing is simply keeping Synapse closed and using the keyboard like a basic keyboard. Unfortunately, both my work and the games I play rely heavily on macros, so this is quite inconvenient. But at least it prevents the system from freezing.

This is an option, but this will not fix the issue and i need my macro’s for my games.
So that’s why i wanted to revert back to Synapse 3. Did reinstall it of course, but they did something to the firmware of the devices (my best bet) because none of them are showing in Synapse 3.

Downgrading a version of synapse 4 is also not possible, read enough over it to know Razer lock that down 2, or someone must have a full working installed version zipped that you can copy over your installation and block all traffic from and to Razer servers to keep it from bricking again.

and knowing how they update and fix problems, believe me.. this will not go away anytime soon…

OMG same thing here, i have reinstalled and everything I am using the naga v2 hyperspeed. It is driving me mad. I hope they fix this asap.

I just tried the beta… did it fine, and then Synapse 4 beta started crashing/recovering using almost 3GB mem after letting it sit like this (so not quit the app) it recovered, starting to play my game again.. guess what? same shit all over.

As i really wanted synapse 3 back on my system i tried today to get it to recognize all my razer hardware (even installed synapse 4 again, backup-ed the drivers (there is a tool for that) uninstalled synapse 4, cleaned the drivers (again) rebooted, installed synapse 3 installed all the device drivers that synapse 4 installed (backup-ed) but forget it… the Synapse 3 that comes from their servers has something in it i guess that keeps you from seeing your devices… BAD practise if you ask me.

So that's why i tried the beta, as in the beta they have more macro options… hoped that might solve the macro issue, but it crashes so fast that i can't really test if that is fixed..

Will test some more, maybe do one more clean install of the beta and see how that goes (don't have my hopes up)

Razer…. Just give us the option to revert back to Synapse 3 (unsupported, but working) so at least “us” the few with those annoying problem have the choice to go back if needed.
