Razer Tartartus v2 joystick not working with synapse on

I have a Razer Tartarus V2 Mecha-Membrane Gaming Keypad. I have used Razer Synapse to configure some of the keys:

  • 6 → 6
  • 11 → G
  • 16 → V
  • 17 → Y (German keyboard)

These bindings are working correctly with Synapse running: they are giving the correct input into World of Warcraft or a text editor. However, the joystick does not. The joystick is on default:

However, when quitting Synapse, the joystick starts working perfectly fine in all applications!

The custom bound keys revert to their default as expected.

Unfortunatelly, the workarounds described in similar threads (see below) are not restoring functionality:

  • switching to 8 Directions mode and binding up,down,… to the arrow keys with disabled “corners” looses the ability to move diagonally
  • same, but adding “up-left”-key macro and similar to the corners makes movement clunky: switching from “up-left” to just “up” requires moving the joystick to the center

Previously I was using another workaround: rebinding the 4-directions joystick to the arrow keys. However, this workaround has stopped working with the latest update. I would really love to use the joystick

Sadly, the default keys for 6, 11, and 17 are special keys (tab, capslock, shift) that cannot be used as ability trigger in World of Warcraft which kinda forces me to rebind at least those keys or stop using them.

Here is the device information

It just cannot be the default directional inputs. This is ridiculous.

Thank you for this comment. I now have bound non-arrow keys. I feel dirty but movement is fluid again.

No problem! Funny enough, I decided to set my hotkeys to the “inverse direction” up=down, right=left, etc. and set the hot key to move my camera in League to be the same input. It’ll work for now lol.

I am having the same issue. Did all the Uninstaller and clearing cache. Re keybound and still no luck.

Having the same Issues, this is ruining my League of Legends Career...Please Razer, why does the Thumbstick only allow me to control my camera when Synapse is closed completely?

Same issue… the macro workaround is too clunky and not consistent when swtching between macros

Same issue. It quit while I was playing WoW last night. When it happened a few months ago, I was able to just rebind the movement keys. That’s not working this time. Why not allow mapping to be saved to on-board memory profiles so we don’t have to go through this with each update?? I’m so irritated. It’s raid night, but I can’t play. Anyone know if the gaming keypads on Amazon are any good?

Exact same situation. It is literally Razer Synapse 4s interaction with the Tartarus that is disabling the arrow inputs from working. If I set the hotkey to any other key, it seems to work fine. Even if you set the hotkey to the mirrored directional input, it works. It just cannot be the default directional inputs. This is ridiculous.

Is there any expected fix? This is such a terrible user experience. If I just dont run Synapse then my joystick works. The minute Synapse loads everything about my joystick just dies… do Razer dev teams run tests before pushing to production? Are their dev teams outsourced? Can’t believe we constantly run into these issues with their software.

This needs to fix right away. I use the Joystick a lot for 3D.

Ok here’s the fix that worked for me and restored perfect functionality set to four way not 8 then manually set the keyboard direction for your joy stick simple

The closest I have come to a solve is following this advice;

Switch to the 8-day mode - then rebind each of the 4 primary directions to the correct Up, Down, Left and Right keys. After that, for the 4 corners, you have to make Macro’s to handle the combination clicks:

And map the corners to those Macro’s. It is important that you also switch the Playback Option to ‘Play while assigned key is pressed’ to ensure they work with continuous presses:
