Hello Razer Support,

As you can probably notice since many others are experiencing this issue since the new synapse update to 20230210 my CPU is being suddenly overtaxed by the RazerCentralService when it wasn’t the case before the update.
Nothing else has changed on my laptop so the update is surely the guilty party.

Could you please fix it rapidly? I have to choose between an overheating cpu or synapse right now, and without synapse I have a weird bug when I try to refresh “This PC” on explorer it freezes for like 15mn!

Are you able to move the below thread into this support section and re-direct this thread to it?

Reason being that thread has more technical information and logs provided which will be more useful. It includes possible avenue of resolution to Razer software developers.

Is this person really from Razer?
She linked me to an exe in a dropbox in PM, no way I am touching that. Call me paranoid. Besides there is no installer for Razer Central right? It’s contained in Synapse and Cortex or am I tripping?

Thank you.

I done a system backup first. The new installer did not fix I’m afraid. So I reverted back my system snapshot.

The only temporary solution for now is that I created a .bat file with below and run as admin to restart WMI serice every time I log in once I open Synapse first, which is workaround which works. I think I’ll just add a time delay in .bat file and use task scheduler to run as admin on login or something.

net stop Winmgmt
net start Winmgmt

Restarting the wmi service does nothing for me.
What exactly is the sequence of events you do? Synapse launches on startup for me and if I restart the wmi service, whether with the bat or in “Services” the RazerCentralService still takes too much CPU and nothing changes (except in MSI Center my temps for CPU/GPU disappear until next reboot).

I load Synapse wait a few seconds then I restart WMI service. Worked for few people in this thread.

At this point might be worth doing clean re-install of all Razer software.

  1. Open Synapse and ensure logged in with your Razer ID
  2. This means it will keep your settings on their cloud.
  3. Uninstall anything Razer software
  4. Delete “Razer” folders only from C:\Program Files (x86), C:\ProgramData and %appdata%\local
  5. Reboot.
  6. Reinstall Synapse software only and skip the other software like Cortex, Axon Chroma etc. Don’t need all that. Just to make sure it’s running only Synapse only.
  7. Log back in with your Razer ID so it will restore your settings.
  8. Right click system tray icon for Razer software, settings and turn off notifications about store promotions etc. Dont need that.
  9. Reboot again
  10. Now see if it that fixes it, most likely it will only be temporary fix as I’ve read it comes back later.
  11. Now try the WMI restart as well

Sounds long winded but to me that’s a clean reinstall.

clean reinstall did nothing..I’ve done this 20 times now myself, some of it at the direction of CS

Been going through forums. I don’t believe that it is problem but have multiple people saying it is their AntiVirus. See posts I’ve pulled out below. They seem to mention Avast AV alot.

As a test can you disable your AntiVirus to see what happens. If that works then you can turn it on and exclude the Razer folders below and see what happens as of course you don’t want to disable antivirus as solution.

C:\ProgramData\Razer
C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer

To really make sure it’s not even Windows Defender. Exclude those Razer folders too in it.

At this point with Razer software in general I think I’ll give up and just uninstall the whole thing.

Then I’m going to look into

On the other thread someone posted this:

https://t.co/QrGVBL9Klu

Works like a charm for me while I wait for the update from either Razer or Avast.

Hi Guys,

The issue was already brought to our team’s attention and we’re working on an update to address the problem. If you’re still experiencing the same issue, please PM me the Synapse version so I can properly document your concern and raise it with the software team. Thank you!

I lost my back up code and phone number on my old phone but i still have my gmail was wondering if its possible to change or recover back up codes using my gmail thats save to the account.

I thought the update fixed it. But then CPU usage went back to before again even after clean reinstall… : (

Also WMI errors still filling WMI activity log.

Restarting WMI is usual temporary fix still.

reinstallation didn’t work, it hung itself at 100% progress, and central services was at 30% cpu utilization, wmi was spiking. uninstaller hung itself as well.

flubbed booting into safe mode, had to system restore my rig, pretty much the first and only time in 20 years that I’ve ever seen system restore actually WORK.

Well…

IDK if it’s the Synapse update I got this morning, or the workaround (even though I don’t launch it at startup anymore) or what but the issue is GONE for me this morning, alleluia!

I do urge below is passed onto Razer software developers. Everything in WMI activity log does point to below as solution. But it has to be implemented on Razer software side.
