RB 17 2021 R09-0406 Screen Flickers (irregular, hard to reproduce) | Razer Insider

Hey Razer Support Team,

I’ve recently bought a Razer Blade 17 (2021), with 3070 and FHD 360 Hz monitor. Bought it from a reputable provider in Taiwan (PcHome 24h). The laptop arrived just a couple of days ago. I contacted them, but I wanted to check in with the Razor Support for additional assistance.

I have a strange blurry flickering effect (notably the cursor looks consistently blurred out, while white text keeps flickering), which happened already 2nd time in the few days of owning this laptop. I have all the latest windows updates (Windows 10 22H2), my NVIDIA drivers are also up to date (536.99) and I did update my BIOS drivers to the latest version provided in the support page of my laptop model. Here I have the refresh rate set to 60 Hz, when the issue appeared, I tried switching to 360Hz, which successfully switched, but the issue remained exactly the same.

I have not been able to reproduce the problem, however the two times it happened, was when I used the laptop for about 2 to 3 hours on battery (usually on 60Hz, with NVIDIA Optimus on), and then plugging in the charger at about 20-30% of battery left. The issue, as I recall, does not instantly appears after plugging in the charger, I’d say after about 20 minutes after plugging the charger in.

I did stress test this laptop prior, running graphic intensive games at high graphic settings for about 3-4 hours straight, of course during that time the charger was plugged in. Even had a moment where charger got accidentally disconnected, which I reconnected after a few minutes. During this time I experience no issues with the screen. The two times when it happened I was mostly performing light to medium workload tasks.

Here is the video to the issue I am having:

I connected an external monitor to the laptop via HDMI, and the monitor noticeably does not have the same flickering issue. Most importantly, this issue disappears right after I restart the laptop (without changing any settings, simple restart completely fixes it). First time I had this issue, I restarted the laptop and the issue did not come back for about 24 hours, until it happened again, I restarted the laptop and still not having any issues since that point, but I am worried that it will come back.

Also as a side note, already since day one, I’ve noticed that my charger power brick (230W) is emitting slight buzzing sound, when it is plugged into the wall outlet. Should I be concerned about this issue as well?

Other than that I had no issues with the laptop, it would be the best laptop I have ever owned, if not for these two issues.

Apologies for the long explanation.

Best regards,

Vytaras Juraska

UPDATE: This is problem became much worse.

So I played around a bit more, and I have managed to recreate the problem. I strongly believe it is the issue of intel integrated GPU. The problem is, that I have found a way worse issue here.

How to recreate: Optimus turned on, refresh rate of the monitor does not matter. I open up a YouTube video and when its loading up, I start scrolling the page up and down. This causes to spike up the iGPU usage and the display starts to glitch out until it completely shuts down…

Restarting the device brings the display back, as if nothing ever happened.

Honestly, I’ve had the black out when scrolling on a YouTube video before once, but shrugged it off, however now when I am able to recreate this issue consistently, I can’t understand how I haven’t seen this issue before.

Considering to return the product, since this seems to be quite a big problem.

Here is the video (sorry for the heavy compression):
