Really weird: Cobra Pro stopped working ... but only in wired mode

Hey all,

I noticed yesterday that my Cobra Pro’s scroll-click function had stopped working. Since it is ~10 months old and I had had similar issues with my previous Razer mouse (Viper 8k), I thought it was just a typical mechanical issue rearing its ugly head, but then this happened a few minutes ago:

The mouse randomly disconnected, RGB lights went dark, mouse pointer stopped working in Windows, etc. Reconnecting/replugging  the device made the lighting and functionality come back, but only for about 30 to 60 seconds or so at which point it would go dark again and stopped functioning. The only thing that was still “working” (kinda) was the “profile” LED on the underside of the mouse, which was still active.

Not sure if this is related, but I also noted that while the mouse was “off”, the lighting on my Virpil throttle started to switch through its colors for some reason. Which it’ll normally only do if I flip its mode selector switch and so I’m inclined to believe that this was the throttle calling attention to a problem of its own … but I haven’t investigated into that further, so…. *shrug*.

Thing is that I have the throttle connected to my monitor’s 4-way Type A hub while the mouse is connected directly to one of my mainboard’s USB sockets, so I’m not sure what the heck’s going on here, but anyway:

I have always used the Cobra wired because I don’t mind the cable and I’d rather have it run at 100% brightness without having to worry about the battery. More out of desperation, I unplugged the cable, put it into the wireless dongle (stock version that came with the mouse), flicked the mouse’s connection-type switch to 2.4 and … it started working again like there never had been a problem. Note that I didn’t change the mouse’s USB socket on the motherboard or the cable - all I did was unplug the min Type-C from the mouse itself, put it into the dongle and set the mouse’s switch from “off” to “2.4”. Oh, and I’m using the standard mini-Type-C to Type A-cable that came with the Cobra Pro.

When I reverted the process and set everything back into wired mode, I got the same behavior of the mouse losing connection to the PC, RGB going dark, etc.

Funnily enough, the mouse-wheel click function works totally normally again now in wireless mode, so I guess this wasn’t a mechanical problem. EDIT: Guess I spoke too soon as the click function was indeed back a couple of minutes ago while on 2.4 wireless, but when I tested it again just now, it had stopped working again… :/

Tried remapping it in Synapse but that didn’t help, either. And I am, sadly, on Synapse 4.

Anyone know what’s going on here and what I can do to persuade the mouse to work in wired mode again?

Cheers,

S.
