Replacing SSD Drive

I have a Razer 15 and I am getting a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen when I try to boot my machine. Windows recovery will not function. So I thought I would just replace the M.2 SSD and start over. This is the only drive in the machine, as it does not have a 2.5 HDD, only the M.2. The new drive just sends me into BIOS and the BIOS doesn't see the drive. Does it need to be initialized? And how does that work?
Sorry, never had a machine that didn't have a 2.5 Drive.
