Setting up mouse for Avid MC on Mac

I'm trying to setup my mouse short cuts using Synapse 2 for Avid Media Composer 2021.2 (on Catalina). The only commands I can get to work are ones I've already mapped within Avid's user settings to my numbers or function keys. Any macro commands I set in Synapse don't work within Avid. Making the Razer mouse pretty useless. Am I missing an essential step? Or is the issue lack of compatibility with Catalina? I had colleagues who was successfully a Razer mouse on the same system. Thanks for any tips people can share!
