Synapse doesn't recognize my device.

I've watched a video about it here on the website. It gives three things to check, but I was only able to check 2 of them, as I have no idea how to check the third and no instructions are give. I did restart my computer and I did the thing where you make sure the program is installed properly. I was unable to check to see what version of Synapse I need for this device because I can't find that information anywhere. When I first plugged in the device it started the download process for Synapse, but it crashed my computer during the install. I get the USB chime when I plug in or unplug the device, but Synapse doesn't see it.
