My battery cable was making a crackling sound and smoked when I plugged it in and then I quickly removed it from the laptop port.  I have  powered down my laptop, but I’m afraid to turn it on and charge it.  It is exactly 3 years to the day I purchased it new.  Is this common in Razer products where they start to do things like this so you have to buy new? Is there a remedy for this? I don’t want to start a fire or have my battery explode on me :/

any help is much appreciated. I use this computer for my work, it’s my livelihood.

Hi StudioMco,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention out. Unplugged the charger right away was absolutely the right thing to do. For safety, please do not use the charger again or try to turn the laptop on while it’s connected to power until we can look into this further.

To help us investigate and escalate this properly, please PM me and share a few details below:

• Where did you see the smoke coming from (the adapter brick, the cable itself, or the laptop port)?

• Did you notice any visible damage, discoloration, or burn marks on the cable, adapter, or charging port?

• Was there any smell (like burning plastic or electrical) and did it linger?

• Were you using the laptop on battery before plugging it in, or was it already connected?

• Was anything else plugged into the same power strip/outlet, and are they working normally?

• Have you ever noticed the charger or port getting unusually hot, loose, or making noises before this incident?
