So when after I launch Minecraft and hit the play button the screen will flash white and then return to the display and continue flashing

First I’d try cleaninstall GPU drivers. You can download app called DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) - do clean uninstall, then just go to Intel/AMD/Nvidia website and download the newest GPU drivers.
